Should Detroit retire Brendan Shanahan's number? Should Carolina retire Rod Brind'AmourBrind'Amour's number (if they haven't already)?

No team should retire his number. But he should be in both Flyers and Penguins HOFs.
- bmeltzer

I have no problem with this. I'm asking the question because I didn't know the answer. I'm making no argument for Recchi's number to get retired.

So my question to you than is, if the Flyers shouldn't retire Recchi's number, what team in the league should? My original question of Recchi in comparison to Hull wasn't about numbers because Brett Hull is a first ballad Hall of Famer. I'm speaking more of a star who moved around often, even if one place was his longest stay over the others.

I don't think any team should retire Recchi's number. He simply didn't play long enough for any one team to deserve that honor.

Bring'Amour's number is retired because he was the captain of their Cup-winning team. That is a unique case because it's their only championship, but he'd be a comp on the ice for Recchi. But notice that his number is not retired in Philadelphia despite both of them having extended stays here.

Shanahan's number will not be retired in Detroit, or St. Louis, New Jersey, or New York. He was a very good supporting player on all of those teams, never the main focus.

Dual induction with Tocchet on both occasions?

Shanahan is the comparison I was looking for than, even though he won many Cups in Detroit.

He's actually a very good one. Like Recchi in Carolina, he came to Detroit as a missing piece who could add veteran scoring and leadership. But he was never "the man" on that team. Totally different type of players, but similar career achievements.

Would be fitting, since they were traded for each other then later ended up as teammates.

Count me in that group. The first name that comes to mind with the Flyers #8 is Schultz.

I agree with you that the number should not be retired for Recchi.

They got that diagnosis because they had REAL doctors at the Showcase.

Had it been the Flyers' doctors, they would be listed as day-to-day with an undisclosed injury.

Yeah go figure. I can't imagine there aren't teams out there that Jagr could play a top 6 role for and still help. Heck, if I were running Vegas, I'd sign him to a big money, one year deal and market the hell out of him.
- BiggE

Can you imagine the optics in this? Jagr likes the tables I hear. He can live at The Bellagio and do a show like De Niro in Casino....lol

Plus, with the amount of young (legal) models that make trips to Vegas every year...

Can't believe we decided to trade for a pesty guy simply because Tony Twist was shadowing Lindros.
