As big of a fan of Rico as I am I don't even consider him worthy of jersey retirement. Of course if Toronto does at some time make that call then I might sway my opinion. I just wonder if he does ever get the call from Toronto.

Not a chance. Desjardins is on that "really, really good" scale, not HOF-worthy great.

Count me in that group. The first name that comes to mind with the Flyers #8 is Schultz.

I agree with you that the number should not be retired for Recchi.

Agreed. Howe, Coffey and Pronger will be it for a while when it comes to Dmen in the Hall of Fame who played for the Flyers.

In fact the only other player who played for the Flyers at some point in his career that I see going in the Hall in the next decade is Jagr. That of course assumes that he one day retires!

Yeah go figure. I can't imagine there aren't teams out there that Jagr could play a top 6 role for and still help. Heck, if I were running Vegas, I'd sign him to a big money, one year deal and market the hell out of him.

Of the current Flyers veterans, the only one with even a remote chance of getting a number retired is Giroux, and it would take him finishing his career (or at least his current contract here), having a couple more 70+ point seasons and leading them to a Cup as Captain.

At this point though, I think he's already pretty much a lock for the Flyers Hall of Fame.

edit: he currently has 575 points in 656 games. So, if he played five more years, led them to a Cup, and finished with say, 900 points in 1025 games, I think he'd at least have a shot, but even then, he would likely have to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame first, and I can't see that happening. His numbers just aren't good enough.

Yep G is the same as Rico... excellent but not great. I doubt either makes Toronto and with that sorry wrong answer if you say yes to putting the number in the rafters.

Numbers cant really be compared to some of the other guys though given how much scoring has dropped off. If he were the captain when the team won a cup I think it would be enough.

Perhaps, I just really hope that it's a question that they are forced to consider!

But he'd play 1000+ games, and you know how valuable those guys are.

Darryl Sittler had a 40-goal year as a Flyer and is a Hockey Hall of Famer. He's not a Flyers Hall of Famer much less a jersey retirement candidate, because he was only here for two-and-a-half seasons.

But hey, by trading him we got Murray Craven... that ought to be worth something.

Recchi had 627 points as a Flyer; 8th in franchise history. LeClair is 7th (643), Brind'Amour is 9th at 601.

BTW, Claude Giroux is currently at 575. Within the next two seasons, he will likely be in the franchise all-time top five in points. He won't catch Clarke (1,210) and probably won't catch Barber (883) or Propp (849) but the top four is reachable. MacLeish is currently 4th (697) and Lindros is 5th (659 in just 486 games; best points-per-game average in franchise history).

So my question to you than is, if the Flyers shouldn't retire Recchi's number, what team in the league should? My original question of Recchi in comparison to Hull wasn't about numbers because Brett Hull is a first ballad Hall of Famer. I'm speaking more of a star who moved around often, even if one place was his longest stay over the others.

I don't think any team in the league should, because I don't think he had a jersey-retiring worthy stay in any one place, unlike Hull.

No team should retire his number. But he should be in both Flyers and Penguins HOFs.
