to me you have to be in the HHOF and spent the vast majority of your career as a Flyer and be associated as a Flyer if that makes sense.

Outside Lindros who will have the honor this season, I honestly can't pick out one Flyer who was on that level in Philly to Match the Players in the rafters already. I think it will be a long time before we see another number raised up.

No one.

Lindros is much pretty much it.

Recchi may not even associate himself as a Flyer, maybe one of the 3 teams he won a Cup with, despite playing the bulk of his career here. And I agree with you.

If Giroux rebounds to have a few 75+ point seasons, moves into top-5 scoring on the team, and captains us to a Cup, he would have his number retired. But that's the only one that I can see in the next 10-15 years.

In 3 years it will be:

#WhyDidWeTradeAllThosePicksForThatScrub
#RememberWhenRyhsHoskinsUsedToHitAHomeRunEveryGame
#LetEmbiidPlayMoreThanTenGames
#ShouldHaveTaken(insert player name here)

Because Philly...

In all seriousness I turn the phillies on when I see Williams and Hoskins are coming up to bat. Been years since I've done that. they seem to have real pieces up and almost ready to come up but man that pitching. Outside of Nola has any of the pitching prospects panned out yet?

Makes total sense.

I liked Recchi, but does any hockey fan really associate him with being a Flyer?

He was passed around the league like a joint at a Phish show.

I expect him to still be in the league in 15 years.

In fact, there are many who still associate the number more with tough guy Dave "the Hammer" Schultz than with prolific scorer Recchi.
- bmeltzer

Count me in that group. The first name that comes to mind with the Flyers #8 is Schultz.

I agree with you that the number should not be retired for Recchi.

Nope, they have some very promising arms in single A, but those guys are likely 2-3 years away from the Majors at best.

edit: the franchise has deep pockets though and payroll will be even lower next year. If they feel that the everyday lineup is ready to compete, I think they would open up the checkbook and sign a pitcher or 2 and/or move some prospects to acquire a top notch starter as well.

The nerve of that kid, not hitting a homerun last night. He should know better by now.

Should have traded him before yesterday's game, his value will never be higher.

As much as I love recchi I agree he shouldn't have his number retired. The other player I might consider is Desjardins.
- twotoekenn

As big of a fan of Rico as I am I don't even consider him worthy of jersey retirement. Of course if Toronto does at some time make that call then I might sway my opinion. I just wonder if he does ever get the call from Toronto.
