Lamoriello is anything but a competent GM, he had to change his ways under Shannahan who IMO has a tight rope where he's concerned. When the cap came in he didn't fair so well in NJ, that's why he was pushed out the door by ownership. - LeftCoaster
He's done well here and was clearly better than what he replaced |

Karlsson d isn't close to that of hedman, doughty and the like.
The point was he was bashing burns defense saying he didn't belong there all the while saying karlsson defense is amazing (it's not any better than karlsson) - burn
There you go...I take Hedman over K as well. |

I disagree, but whatever. Karlssons outstanding, maybe he isn't the best at defending compared to hedman or doughty but it doesn't matter cause when hes on the ice he barely has to do it because he keeps the puck the other way, good enough for me, he has 2 Norris's and arguably could have won the last two. Especially two years ago when Doughty won. I'm sure Burns is fine in his end but really dont know, i dont watch San Jose very often and i doubt you do too i'm not sure if he was bashing as he basically said he shouldn't be 2nd but could be 3rd.. He said hes defense isn't exactly good but the offense is amazing. |

Because one guy plays 2 way smart hockey, no chances while to their guy goes all out offense and very little defense.
It's no coincidence which one has won 2cups. - burn
Karlsson took a bad Ottawa team almost to finals. Doughty was a huge part of stacked teams. |

He said burns too high cause his d sucks, but karlsson's d is awesome. That's absurd
Not sure if Doughty is top5? Wurt? - burn
Doughty at the Olympics away from sutter has always been the best dman on the planet. |

Watching Fever Pitch.
The Jimmy Fallon character needs to be punched in the face.
This should have been a great movie. |

And at the same time he said karlson defense is amazing. You can tell me karlson defense is amazing and that burns is rated too high cause his defense sucks with a straight face and mean it. |

I don't think the two situations are comparable if that's what you're getting at? Horvat plays on a poop team with next to zero help whereas Brown plays on a talent laden team. Horvat also plays a different position and he had almost 20 more points than Brown. - LeftCoaster
Leafs are only a talent-laden team when it suits people's arguments? |

You should come over and help me explain that we should be doing what the Leafs have done in regards to finishing near the bottom to help the future. I've been singing the same tune for awhile now, it's not a secret. |

You guys finished at the bottom already..... the best thing you guys can do right now is gut the team (don't worry about getting full value) and get as much futures as you can. |

The Sedin's are now anchors. Once great, but now becoming a burden. The Canucks can't and won't turn the corner until they're done in Vancouver. |

True, they have finished second last and third last but ended up picking fifth both times, that's not in their control. They made some good picks though, at least IMO they did.
Definitely need a few more years at the bottom to turn things around though! |

Hopefully this is their last year, hopefully, Linden is a huge d!ckhead though and may re-sign them because he has some sick fascination with them |

Wow, nice contract for Brown.
I think this is an example of a player who truly wants to be a Leaf and always has. Would be nice to see Matthews, Nylander, Marner follow him and sign a tad cheaper deal. 500k each goes a long way |

Not a huge fan of Lou. Really like Shannahan though - ClarksonDavid
I was a bit nervous of them bringing in Lou too; kinda thought he would be a dinosaur, and he left New Jersey in a bit of a mess.
...but results speak for themselves. He's been pretty solid thus far. Brown signing is just the latest in a string of pretty solid moves, for the most part.
The Marleau signing was a bit high $$-wise, and he hasn't been able to unload JVR for defense yet, but these are minor things compared to the wins he's scored. I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt from all of us easily, for now.

Personally the main move i dislike right now is Zaistev for 7 years. But i hope Zaistev proves it to be a good move. Either way im happy with the direction |

just have to assume that its the dog days of summer clouding judgement.
anyone who thinks Shanahan has done nothing/next to nothing...
that's tantamount to saying Burke was "good" and Nonis was "good".
The major point - which seems to be lost on many - is that to date Shanahan hasn't made a mistake... or any consequence. No poor judgements , no overvaluation of assets AND NO LEAKS of information.
Not sure if Bernier's second deal was technically during Shanahan's first year... if so that was poor.... otherwise all good.
