Maybe they see visions and opportunities to grow with a team and roster vs signing with teams who are in win now mode just to be buried anyways - DDM-Coga
At this point playing time is all they can offer and very little pressure |

yeah, pretty much like the Devils and Avalanche made a Kerfoot for Butcher trade
could have saved everyone some time and did it awhile ago |

Then what would we have to talk about for the last few weeks? Nothing else happening. |

All of them basically. - SnipeDevil6
I'd say our FA signings of ex-Devils have been worse than the trades. Except one that brought a great return. |

came really close to signing Patrik Elias in 2006 too, wonder how different things would have been if they had happened, for better or worse |

Redden was not a trade
he was a free agent signing
like Bryzgalov, Lecavlier and Andrew MacDonald
just like that - jimbro83
I admire you for trying to reason with a flyer fan but it's useless these are the same fans that think that Claude giroux is not the most over rated player in the NHL and that he's worth something in a trade and teams would be lineing up for his services. |

I read most of the flyer blogs and it's insane when you read the players they mention getting in a trade for him. Most flyer and pens fans always talk about the rangers not winning the cup since 94 pens sucked for a long time to draft Lemieux the draft was tilted towards them for crosby( which I truly believe ) and the flyerfans have talked non stop about their prospect pool for years and they still suck. They may have a lot of top prospects but until they start consistently making the playoffs like the rangers have they need to keep quiet about what the rangers are or aren't going to do. |

I'd give him 8 years if it helps keep the cap hit down
I am very comfortable with him being here another 10 years, (including two he has left) I think he'll always be in great shape, be a great skater, I know he's had some injuries but they don't really bother me
I don't think he's anything like giving Girardi or Staal long term money
8 years 48 mil |

Problem I see with this, is you give him too much and he pretty much is blocking Skjei. If Skjei keeps progressing he will probably be better than McDonagh. |

whether it's a 6 year deal or an 8 year deal, he's still gonna block Skjei
it's at that point, if thats really a worry you have, then you think about trading him
but, I think he's a Rag for life |

Still a little ways off, so its a good problem to have now. Just sucks when you have 2 #1's on the same side. |

ya I struggle with this too
I also worry about the shoulder abuse he has taken in the past but jimbo is right its nothing like Staal/G.. well yet, cant forget about the head shots either
Put me in the camp of I would give him a 5-6 year deal and maybe a little more per year to stay away from an 8 year deal |
