Can he not do what Marchenko did to go to the KHL by terminating his contract?
KHL teams usually make the players buy their way out of their contracts. He might not want to do that for ELC money, and what if it doesn't work out like the majority of KHL imports?

I was watching Matthews highlights today. Hyman always seemed to be apart of the play whether he touched the puck or not....you know the forecheck, net front, behind the net.....the grinding and getting the other team out of position.
After I thought, what if Marleau doesn't work as well with Matthews. He might end up with Kadri.
Hyman, Matthews, Nylander
JVR, Bozak, Marner
Marleau, Kadri, Brown
Martin, Moore, Komarov
....and that doesn't look too bad to me. The 4th line could be dangerous too. Almost 4 scoring lines.
Thoughts??? - underhill14
So many plays by the Matthews line where Hyman didn't get a point, but he should have, as they say. Some people don't get that. |

he's a valuable player...but let's not get crazy! ..I'd like to see him on a line with Komarov and Martin. .I remember Martin's line on the islanders and they were very effective! ..The three of them(Martin Komarov Hyman ) would create fits for other teams imho And I'm confident that jvr will be traded,(Florida?) and that kappy will be the one looked apon to be the next in line for a roster spot. Probably with kadri and brown? Also if the leafs are unable to retain bozak to a team friendly contact (it's possible ?) he'll also be traded in the near future, tho the question is who will replace him? ..Nylander won't be an option at this point. ..This years training camp should be the most competitive we've seen in resent years, can't wait! |

So many plays where Hyman should have gotten a goal, but couldn't hit the barn side of a broad. |

Zezel-man knows his hockey! - MaximusAurelius
Well I assume Hyman will be playing further down the lineup this season because Marleau will play with AM, so some of these guys will be happier, but I do like the way he plays for his role. He's (frank)ing awesome on the PK too. |

I agree.
Although I think Hyman will stay with Matthews (maybe move Nylander to other line?).
Marner needs some decent linemates, he'll get 70+ points then.
Hyman (and Brown) are key forwards on the PK.
The most important reason why Leafs will make the playoffs easily, is that special teams will be even better than last season.
PK forwards: Hyman, Brown, Moore, Komarov. (Marner, Kadri and Matthews can play PK as well; Bozak if he stays).
PP fw's: Nylander - Marner - Matthews - Marleau - Kadri - Brown most important on PP; JVR and Bozak if they stay. |

Let's not get carried away here. Brown much better than Hyman. Brown is everything Hyman is (hard worker, good pker ect) with offence. |

I'm super excited to see some of these combos. The forwards were already tough to match up against last year, now adding Marleau in there too is really intriguing. Not to mention all the kids with a year of experience. I think it'll be a treat to watch. |

While I would agree that Hyman would be better suited to a third or fourth line role, he's a very useful piece on the Leafs. Mike Fisher is a good example of a player that worked hard, could skate and hit, and was not really a scorer. He managed to be captain of the team that just lost in the finals last year. Beacause of the cap, it would be hard to imagine filling the fourth line with 20-30 goal scorers. His defense is solid. |

Brown as well disappears for several games during the season.
Hyman is always playing well; at least a 6, and sometimes 8-9. Barely has any off-games.
Babcock likes that in Hyman.
I like Brown, I don't think though that he is super special.. and while Brown is a better hockey player in quite a few aspects over Hyman, Hyman brings a specific skill set which is not that easy to find (in particular on that salary).
Hyman if still on Matthews' line could easily get 45points coming season.

I'd still love to trade JVR for a good defenceman.
But if not I'm kinda ok with this ...
Hainsey Rielly
Gardiner Zaitsev
Carrick Ozhiganov
With the following waiting in the wings....
Liljegren
Dermott
Borgman
Rosen
Rasanen
Nielsen
Oh and Marincin can (frank) right off!

If he's better in quite a few aspects how is he not more valuable? He's better defensively and at least if not better at defense, work ethic pk
Babs love brown as well. |
