I am all for poop talk. But it gets pretty stupid from both fan bases when people start connecting a whole fan base to 1 or 2 fans opinions.
I am cautiously optimistic about the Flames season. Some big question marks but I like what I see.
As an Oil fan I would feel the same. You guys know better than anyone that it does not take much for a season to go off the rails.
You guys have an awesome team with a lot of firepower. I am hoping that Chia finds more ways to (frank) it up. - DuranDuran
Agreed. One or 2 of you never compared Bennett to Gilmour. |

Yup there were quite a few that said that. Even some oil fans that were pissed we took Drai over him. Remember Nugeishuge pissed that the Flames got the best player in that draft??? |

Dont get me wrong, it takes really good scouting and a draft strategy to get any one of those guys on the list. And absolutely there is luck in the first round as well, but when you look at the percentage of a player from each round making it, there is far more luck in the 3rd and 4th. And back to the list of late steals, if anyone of those organizations 'knew' what those players were to become, they would never ever let them slide, and chance another team taking them. That thought process is the definition of Ludacrious. - Shyster19
But look at Feasters history i.e. Jankowski. He is known for taking guys when he think they can get them, hence why he traded down when they wanted Janko, and why they reached for Gaudreau.
Anyway, I am not saying there isn't luck, but certainly you just don't take guys strictly based on what you think the end product will be. There's definitely a "value" factor as well. |

I love the Flames blueline but hate their goaltending. |

As an Oiler fan, I don't think that we did anything to improve this off-season, and are likely slightly worse. In my opinion, any improvement we get from internal growth will likely be offset by more injury than we saw last year, as that was an anomaly for us. I think Calgary might leapfrog us this year, as they have improved, conditional on how Smith plays (but I think he will do well). And, all that said, I think either team would gain a little bit more edge against the other by signing Jagr on a 1 year deal. - Beergu
I don't think we got worse... but we certainly didn't get better aside from the young guys being one year older and more experienced. |

Only possible way we got better is if McDavid grows further and scores 120 points this year.
Other than that we definitely downgraded other areas. |

Our defence is the same aside from the Sekera injury which will hurt for sure. I think Nurse is going to take a step forward this year.
Our goaltending is improved based on getting rid of Gustafsson.
Our forwards are a huge question mark because of the Strome / Eberle swap. |

The Sekera injury scares me the most. If he is out until December there will be trouble. Sekera was the strongest part of the him and Russell pair and I think people will see Russell for what he is without a stronger partner.
Brossoit needs to get some games in early so we know what he is. Talbot should not be playing north of 70 again his season.
Our forwards could be worse, the same or better and an argument can be made for any one. If Puljujarvi can have the type of season Draisaitl was able to in his second year that would be a huge boost. |

Sekera is supposedly tracking to be back by November and Russell has had sucess with more than Sekera. The problem with Russell is the math nerds hate him. |

Russel is like Horcoff at the end...don't hate him, just hate his contract. If it was 2 years at 4 mil, or 4 years at 3 mil, it would be a better situation. |

Personally I am not as sour on Russell as some people are. I think he is a more old school defender (getting into shooting lanes, reducing scoring chances) but he struggles with the puck moving game. I look at teams like Anaheim and Nashville who have loaded their D core with puck moving defenders. Russell needs to be paired with someone who can move the puck like Benning.
In a perfect world I would a D pairing where a defender can move the puck up from both sides, giving that many more options for the forwards. |

In a perfect world I agree... but our coach obviously values what Russell brings to the team. |
