Valid points. Personally, I'm not really interested in seeing/aquiring someone in the twilight of their career. Right now, I am more interested in watching the growth & progress of the young Canucks & prospects. If the Canucks used Jagr as an enticement to fans I would view that as a desperate and off course PR move. They should just stick to their 'getting younger and faster' plan. My opinion right or wrong.

Why isn't everyone making a bigger deal about the Horvat (non-)signing???

What's happening right now does not bode well for us. It should be the top-story every day.

For instance, notice how Hirsch said 'you don't want to lose him' in the article linked to above? Right before changing the subject? Now, why on Earth would he ever say that??? Horvat's an RFA, we are in absolutely no danger of losing him (unless he wants out). So, why would Hirsch imply we are in danger of losing him? Why would he ever do that - unless management has actually been talking about it? Unless they've actually been gaming this out?

This implies that they've offered Horvat multiple different humongous contracts - and he's turned them all down. It also implies that management are worring about what to do without Bo.

It sure looks like we are about to get screwed. Massively.

Exactly on the selfish approach. Why I questioned risk on meshing with team. He'd be professional and all but the vets, who aren't going anywhere, on Canucks this season may not appreciate it. Thus it may harm development of younger guys.

Even a pump and dump would be risky as it didn't work out last season for him. That it may cost a prospect or reclamation player ice time well don't know if it is worth the risk.

But hey if it happens will enjoy the spectacle as he is kind of a legend.

- Nuck4U

Valid concern, but for me the ones that matter (the kids) would learn a lot from him and appreciate having him. If Sutter/Sedin/Eriksson dont like him, I would not be concerned, he's left a trail of good young players in his wake since his return to the NHL in Dallas, Philly, NJ and FLA

Even if no one wants him, like when he didnt get traded out of NJ, or it doesnt work out, no big deal. He only wants 1 year deals, low risk

Funny how often I get comment-replies like this - only to have my original comment proven correct in the long run! I got two years worth of snotty comments like this when I told you guys that the only thing which made sense was that Kesler and Luongo had asked for trades. You guys slandered me for literally years over those two claims. Oh, and look who was right! Not you guys.

When Horvat either gets offer-sheeted, traded, or (more likely) signs a contract that makes you shake your head and wonder what Canucks' management was thinking, I imagine you guys will probably forget who was actually right here, like always...

speaking of Offer Sheets, I read a few posts today regarding Andreas Athansaiou. Wings not completely set on him, are 4 million over the cap, and still have him to sign. Essentially could be offer sheeted, but would have to be willing to give up a 2nd or 1st rounder for him (depending on $). Do you do it? 18 goals last year on a crappy red wings team.

fair, but while acquiring picks, building through the draft, and developing in the minors is what I want to see most from the Canucks, this isn't something I would necessarily be mad about if the Canucks did, as long as it wasn't crazy cap and the pick going back was high. I am not sure what the going rate would be for a 23 year old who can score 18 goals, but if you offer sheet him at 2 mill, you only pay a 3rd round pick.

What part of No wasn't clear? I did say there were some nice pieces and they have excitement going for them with their scoring. Best draft move they made was Liljegren but kind of reminiscent on how the others fell their way too. No bold or ballsy type drafting with foresight. Which is what I would have given kudos for to answer Codes take on giving credit. But for Codes to know I would say they did a good job moving contracts and getting picks.

Maybe some tankers are envious of the Laffs future. But their short sighted simplistic approach to building a winner are akin to Laff nation. Who upon winning the lotto gamble, followed by one good season, have declared the rebuild over. Now talking about a window period.

So again, won't trade what the Canucks have going for them. They are building talent in ALL positions. Happy to see that unfold then trade it away for a crash and burn possible future. But again enjoy the high. The pressure just rises more and more from here on up.

Not sure Bo getting offer-sheeted would be such a bad thing. The compensation would be quite nice, depending on how much was offered.
Pretty sweet looking draft and I for one wouldn't mind all the extra picks.

pS I like Bo.

True but they can only go over the cap 10% between now and the season. I havent looked either but it would put them in a tough spot if you did the numbers correctly. Too bad most GM's are too nice to use offer sheets

which is true. I hate the idea of the compensation of offer sheeting someone, which is why I don't really read articles on them, but when you look at the cap HELL that DET is in, and a young/fast/talented player like Andreas, the compensation isn't awful at all if you could do it right. Again though, you would be pissing off Kenny Holland and not sure you want to do that.
