What is going on with the nhl video game. I think I stopped at '14. Is it worth buying a PS4 for? I enjoy GM mode and kind of flamed out when GM connected didn't take off

The new one comes out mid September. I don't believe connected is a feature this year (again). Seems this year they put an emphasis on dekes and mechanics rather than improving game modes. They did add a fun arcade 3V3 mode. I already preordered it so I can give more info once I get it if you're holding off for a little.

As for buying a system just for it... well that depends. NHL is easily my most played game and my Xbox One is worth it just for NHL and the other apps like Netflix + HBO Go imo. PS4 however does has more exclusives that are worth checking out if you plan on getting other games.

I will be getting a ps4 in about a month...contractually obligated to buy COD WWII, but will probably get NHL too

Start the season with a 4 game WEST COAST road trip! First two games, middle of the week, at SJ @ 10:30pm and at LA @ 10pm? Way to alienate young kids who are Flyer fans. What a boner move.

I spent about 20 years PC gaming with 10-12 of those leading raid guilds in EQ2.
Got so burned out at the end being in a world wide ranked guild that I just finally was like..Consoles are the way to go for me.

I played the open beta of 18 and wasn't all that impressed. The 3 on 3 arcade thing was fun for about a game or two. If I'm remembering right, 14 was better than the last few they released. I'm a sucker though, so I'll probably still buy it.

In fact, it has long been a theory of mine that it is sometimes best to catch the toughest opponents at the very beginning of the season (before they get on a roll) or late in the year (when they might either be in tuneup mode or otherwise not at their best).

Trials of the 9 will be one of the most played competitive/ranked game modes this year, guaranteed.

Better to get that trip out of the way right off the bat, IMO. In fact, it has long been a theory of mine that it is sometimes best to catch the toughest opponents at the very beginning of the season (before they get on a roll) or late in the year (when they might either be in tuneup mode or otherwise not at their best).

The original Doom does it for me..
Freaking playing the Aliens mod for that gave me one of the best video game scares ever when I was younger.

I was the same as you, although gaming a bit longer. I tried doing the console switch during the 360/PS3 era and that did not go over well for me. I still own all the consoles made, but now they are strictly for exclusive games and even then it's like pulling teeth to unbox the PS4.

Personally I just find console and PC gaming as two different worlds. It's a lot more than just graphical resolution too. PCs cost more, but overall console gaming is way more expensive. Plus all the options you lose gaming on consoles like wacky UI choices, game settings and most importantly locked 30 fps. I just don't know how people can play without a FOV slider. On the other hand everything a console can do a PC can do as well (couch game, wireless controllers, etc), but the other way around can't be said.

I tried Destiny so much, even after all the updates, but the game was just bad. I even stood in line so I could preorder the digital copy for PS3 and PS4 versions for both myself and my sister. I hope Destiny 2 is better, but what I have seen so far it looks like another wannabe console MMO that seems huge and turns out to be empty.

No problem, they really have dropped the ball on answering to the fans/buyers.. id say the lack of GM connected is the biggest complain I run into in forms or comments. But I'm a sucker myself and I don't really buy any of he other sports games. I'm a big fan of their HUT mode.

My gripe is more about the fans ability to watch and get excited for the new season. Nothing worse than telling a child the very first game of the season is on too late for them to watch. Even if the road trip was a week later I could understand, but the first two games of the season in the middle of the week on after 10pm. The NHL schedule maker program dropped the ball on that one.

I know it's being released on Battlenet.

Most likely it will be up there, but catching PUBG (8 million sold and not even out of early access yet) will be tough.

PUBG has no longevity. It is at its absolute peak right now.

Allegedly, D2 already has a calendar year's worth of more content to release post launch.
