Analytics people love O'Reilly.

Still don't think he's top 20.

He was 31st in scoring for centers (give or take a few because they have some centers listed as wings, some wings as centers)

24th in PPG. (Same, give or take a few)

Yes, he's good defensively, but so are a lot of guys like him.

I think it's tough to call him a top 25 center.

- sbroads24

Anyone worthy enough to suit up for Canada is a top 25 centre. If it's top 30 so be it but his value as an all situations type player is perfect for our team

Wait so he is right around 30 for scoring and 24th in PPG and is the 3rd or 4th best defensive center in the game and that doesn't make him a top 25 center?

How is it tough to call him a top 25 center when he is 31st in points and 24th in ppg?

He is really close to being top 25 on stats alone not to mention his defensive play.

Doesn't seem too tough

- Stripes77

His scoring is inflated a little bit IMO because he's forced to play so many minutes.

When we have depth I think he goes under 20 minutes a game.

Don't get me wrong, O'Reilly is an awesome player. But I think I would take a few more centers over him in that range

buffalo's tear down and rebuild coincided with the rise of the Edmonton Oilers...many, myself included, were of the belief that bowman was building a great team...after all he had just came over from Montreal where "The Flying Frenchmen" were a dynasty...it was disappointing outcome...After coaching the expansion St. Louis Blues, Bowman won Stanley Cups with Montreal, Pittsburgh and Detroit...his time in Buffalo, however, didn't go as planned
- Michael Pachla

Yeah, but the difference was he had to turn players away in Montreal, It's easy when the team has 18 Cups and he already had one on his way to 4 more with them.

It's not so easy in an American city that had a Final appearance and a couple HOFers at the end of their careers, or very beginning in the case of a few guys.

That "Star power" chart that came out a little while ago had ROR only a few spots behind Jack in tier 2. It was sort of broken being that it was cumulative and players that were hurt, like Jack and Jamie Benn were much lower than they should've been. And even ROR, because he's missed about 20 games the past 2 years.

You just said he's 24th in ppg
And u said he's good defensively

So how does that knock him lower than 24th?
Shouldn't being good defensively move him up?

Plus, he's played in the worst of circumstances
And he doesn't get to play with wingers like Bergeron (for example) does

It certainly does for Bergeron.

But we'll never really know how good he could've been if Richards didn't almost decapitate him.

Edit: Randy Jones. I was thinking David Booth with Richards. Still a Flyers (frank) either way.

People are overreacting to all this Boldin stuff

He's old & clearly lost a step
Gave it one last shot, and he couldn't perform that well, so he called it quits
It's got nothing to do with the Bills

If Boldin was any good, better teams would be after him

He's done, it's no big deal

I'm sure quite a few of those Centers that were 15-23 in ppg aren't as good defensively as O'Reilly
And I'll bet many of them also play on better teams,
with better wingers,
and better defensemen getting the puck up the ice,
And don't have to play in the toughest situations like O'Reilly

Without making a list...
he should probably be considered top20, if not better

Idk what u mean?
His stats have been declining for like 4 or 5 straight years
I'd say it's reasonable to assume age is a factor

You could make this case for other players on that list too.

In no particular order

1. Crosby
2. McDavid
3. Seguin
4. Tavares
5. Bergeron
6. Malkin
7. Matthews
8. Eichel
9. Backstrom
10. Scheifele
11. Getzlaf
12. Stamkos
13. Toews
14. Kopitar
15. Barkov
16. Monahan
17. Mackinnon
18. Johansen
19. Draisaitl
20. Giroux
21. Jeff Carter
22. Kuznetsov

Then you have a bunch of guys like

Krejci
O'Reilly
Turris
Couture
Staal
Granlund
Trochek
Kelser
Kadri
Wenneberg
Spezza

Who are all in the tier below.

I guess you could make the case for 25-27.

Yet Oreilly gets the benefit of playing a PP unit (where he does a bulk of his scoring) with Jack Eichel. Which not all centers have that luxury.

Boldin wasn't adding to it was my point...
so who cares if he retired or not?

Has zero to do with the Bills
He's just old & no longer good

O'Reilly wasn't in the Myers trade, why u sh!ting on him now! Hate to say boys, but the Sabres's will finally be a team that could win every night and make a run at a playoff spot! Deal with it, all this negativity and stat bullish!t is just getting old!

I called him one of the best #2 Centers in hockey.

I am sorry I am not a giant homer that thinks everyone of our players are All-Stars.

O'Reilly is excellent.
