Cody Franson agent says interest starting to pick up, should sign in next few weeks. #Canucks not interested.

I still think Franson and or polak would be better # 6/7 type guys then Roz, I can't believe that anybody thinks he should ever be on the ice again on team that is trying to get younger and faster and is also in win now mode. I also think Rutta is going to surprise and be as good as Kempny last year.

Below is write up on some prospects I really question it once both debrinct and Forsling we said to have good speed. Forsling has good change of direction but is not fast. I also might agree that we are deeper on D then forwards or goalie's. the only forwards that I think might be top 9 players (at this point) are Fortin and Sykura. I know debrinct scores but allot but I'm just not sure. Hayden, knott, Bondra, Icapolie, starret all have some size but I'm just not sure were they project on a team above fill in, checking line or career AHL.

Are NHL Positional rankings something that is vitally important or a 100% accurate assessment of talent/production? No. But, I will say that these rankings show Toews' status around the league has fallen off a cliff since June 2015. How quickly people forget about past performance, but that's the nature of the beast. There is NO REASON Toews should be outside the Top 10 Centers in the NHL based on his Cap Hit. He needs to eclipse 70 points this year, especially given the status of the Hawks D-Core....they will give up some goals.

These lists are just for fun and to get people talking about hockey during the slowest hockey month of the year. Nothing more.

I have no issue with a vet d-man getting a PTO, in fact I'd be surprised if it didn't happen. But Stan's hands are tied until Hossa goes on LTIR.

I don't have time to do the math but on cap friendly:
https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/blackhawks

you only need to start the year with 20 players Roz and Tootoo better be going to Rockford. and Nick is waiver exempt so if franson was making $875K I think you could add franson and just send Nick down until we we put Hossa LTIR. Polak might start the season on LTIR as well but that might be harder.

Sure, if you add a vet for < $1 million then a move could be made now. But if that was a possibility I would think it would have happened already.

I wouldn't be surprised either, also wouldn't be surprised if a handshake deal happens and is announced after Hossa goes on LTIR.

More from Dobber Hockey.

Around the midpoint of the season, the Toews, Panik and Schmaltz line was put together. Toews went on to post 37 points in the last 37 games, Schmaltz 24 in 35, and Panik 26 in 38.

I keep seeing these roster projections with Roszival as #7. I say not a chance. Remember that Hawks management told Campbell he would not be brought back as a player. There is no way Rozy plays ahead of Oesterle or Forsling. I firmly believe he is number 8. He will be put on IR to start the season with "soreness"

I know this is off topic and more looking down the line as for the next couple of seasons after this one. A friend of mine who's brother lives in Canada and is supposedly tune in to Canada media very closely told me the nhl and nhlpa are headed to possibly a another lock out season and this could get very ugly. Players are not going to give in and want certain concession and are extremely upset with bettman and his cronies for not marketing the game better to add more revenue to grow the sport more and get more interest from the casual fan. Also some teams might have to fold or have to be relocated. How much validity is into this I don t know but if coming out of Canada and media I think there is some truth to this. So in my opinion this all goes back to the hard cap which in my mind is killing the nhl, bettman got is parity and its killing the nhl parity hardly ever works, does anyone want to see Carolina and Arizona in the finals rating would so low. Big market teams in any sport make the league money , the nhl needs to market and advertise the game and young stars whole lot better if wants to get to level of the other three sports.

Correct.

As a right hander playing RW or a lefthander playing LW, you have to shoot across your body and you have less of a 180 degree shooting arc at the net from any given place on your side of center. Playing the wing on the "off"side of your stick (ie LH playing RW) gives you more and better shooting angles anywhere your side of the center of the ice.

- John Jaeckel

This was a European innovation brought to North America by the old Red Army teams. Back in the 60s when I started playing, left shots played the LW and right shots the RW. While it does help in the offensive zone, it's a disadvantage in the D zone. When you receive a pass as a left shot on the left boards, you are already facing up ice and can move the puck up more quickly. A right shot on LW has to catch the pass on his back hand, or turn to face the defense man, turning his back to the opponents zone, and making him vulnerable to hits/pinches by the opponents D. He then needs to turn 180 degrees to head up ice.

Was it Schmaltz? Was it (what I heard) Toews' back improving? Both?

I will say this, to the eye, Toews started doing things physically at that point in the season that no one had seen him do with regularity for at least a year. Which speaks more to the injury than linemates.

Schmaltz also disappeared in the playoffs.

I'll take that action. Maybe not every night. But if Rozy can actually get skates on, and if no other vet option is acquired, I think Q is gonna play him some, especially if Q'sonly other options are guys with 50 games or less in the NHL.

Let me add on this:

Whether it was Toews' getting back to near full health (as I was told) or Schmaltz, or both, almost doesn't matter.

Not many people would argue that Schmaltz is a better or equal 1LW (especially playing with Toews) than Brandon Saad is.

So just doing the math/logic, that is a VERY good sign for the Toews line (likely with Saad) in 17-18.

But if it does speak to Schmaltz maybe being a more effective LW than some (myself included) give him credit for, then maybe they throw him in the mix on Kane's left flank.

Just seems to me you want a finisher/pure shooter there, which Schmaltz isn't.
