Scheifele (some bias there).
But yes I would consider him and Matthews pretty close.

Isnt Nylander a center?

He'd be around the 5 or 6 spot.

We were assured by Spiegel that Barkov is the best center in the league. This should be a slam dunk when it's limited to just youngsters.

Sorry just late to the stove!

1. McDavid

3. Mackinnon
4. Eichel
5. Sean Monohan

I don't think Sean Monahan gets enough love. He's the highest scoring player from the 2013 draft, including MacKinnon.

hell never be a Top 5 C until he gets a decent hair cut, guy needs to figure out his look

Why cause he's the only one who mentioned a Calgary player?

How can both of you place MacKinnon and Barkov ahead of Monahan and one of you also place Wennberg ahead of Monahan?? Unreal! Do stats matter - I guess not!

Since their draft year from ages 18 to 22:

Monahan: 217 pts, 107 goals. Most goals 31,least goals 22.
MacKinnon: 206 pts, 75 goals. Most goals 24, least goals 14.
Barkov: 171 pts, 73 goals. Most goals 28, least goals 8.
Wennberg: 119 pts, 25 goals. Most goals 13, least goals 4.

Looking at these stats, Monahan should be a solid, easy # 4 on the list - and debatably as high as # 3 over Eichel.

Poor Monny, just no respect!

Monahan: career 47.7 5v5 cf%
MacKinnon: career 49 5v5 cf%
Barkov: career 52.2 5v5 cf%
Wennberg: career 50.5 5v5 cf%

These are fancy stats guys, dont forget that. Also looking at Primary Points vs the rest, Mony is considerably lower then the rest.

Just this week I think it was Yost who pointed out that Calgary at home gives out the most secondary assists in the league, considerably higher than league average

Are Flames officials padding Mony and Johnnys stats...my column

Oh for frank sakes! Shut the frank up! Give me a break! Those numbers mean absolutely poop when compared to what really counts - points & goals. And what a crock of poop about Calgary giving out more secondary assists than anybody in the league. Where do you come up with this crap? Do you just make it up to piss people off? Well its working.

Im not the biggest advocate for them lethe but the writers who did this hot stove are, so you know they are up to date with this sort of stuff when they look at player models to determine who they like and not like.

Thats why I hate Ryan Wilson as a writer, all he does is look up Hero Charts and claims a player is good or bad based off a bar graph.

And I didn't make that up,

Former HB writer and TSN fancy stats guy Yost made the point
