I will also end the Tavares speculation once and for all and tell you that once the fans turn out in droves for the NHL Centennial Tour festivities at the Northwell Health practice rink Sept. 16-17 jt will see the passion and put pen to paper instantly

Players go through sophomore slumps all the time. He had some great flashes the year before. Also, the team didn't really play much of anything last year.

His performance in Tucson doesn't really inspire confidence either, but you never know. I don't think he'll ever be much more than a 3rd liner.

was very disappointed when I found out he was the last piece of that trade

Depth piece. Might be a middle-6 winger some day, but he's had a real tough time staying healthy.

Maybe get an NHL arena for him to play in?

I think Tippet really killed the kids moral. This year will be the time for him to get it together seeing as they should ice a young roster.

Biggest issue is the money he wants. Not many teams are going to be able to absorb a cap hit of that size.

The Blues, for example, if they signed JT for $12 million per, would have $5-8 million left to sign 9 guys.

Toronto? ~$20 million to sign 9 or 10 guys including William Nylander, with Matthews' and Marner's signings coming the year after that.

Montreal could do it, but again would only have $5-8 Million to fill out 7 roster spots.

Rangers would have $10-15 Million in space to sign 9 players, including RFA's Brady Skjei, J.T. Miller, Kevin Hayes and Jimmy Vesey.

- BINGO!

Blues probably couldn't for 12m, although if he'll take more like 10m, Blues can trade/buyout someone like Gunnarson and/or Sobotka and let Statsny walk to afford it without any real drop in team quality. Blues have lots of middle 6 and second pairing prospects knocking on the door. If he is looking for a team needing a #1C that he would instantly make a Cup contender, plus a superstar winger to pair him with, St. Louis makes a lot of sense. If he wants to maximize earnings, it definitely won't be in St. Louis.

People down here were poopting over Stamkos leaving when he wasn't resigned right away. In the end, it was a lot of worry for nothing. Tavares has more than proven his loyalty to the Isles, so he isn't going anywhere. The pencil pushers just need to dot the I's and cross the T's. It'll get done.

A) Pretty sure BINGO is joking around (with a degree of hope).
B) If JT doesn't sign with the Isles, he's going to Toronto. Just ask Leaf fan.

- Isleshockeyman

Leaf fans are not really saying that, the media is stirring the pot however.

Yeah, those 5 gs in almost 60 games with a team that didn't play defense screams awesome.

So the one kicker the Islanders have is the 8 years vs the 7 years that others can offer.

That was huge for Stamkos, however Fl is not taxed like NY.

I'm thinking/hoping that JT will sign with the Islanders at 11 to 12 million per for 8 years.

I think the arena is big to him and seeing how this team does this season, he seems to love weight so a good year should get it done. He will get money no matter where he goes

Well a couple comments fellas.

1) if you are a bubble team to make or not make playoffs doesn't make you a Cup contender.

2) have posted here many a time that the stadium deal is key. Tick tock Snow in season and TDL trades hold less value for a giant of a trade like JT.

Money as you said he's getting anywhere, however if you sign him for 11 per the Isles can pay him 11 million more right off the bat.
It's a big advantage don't discount it.
Agree with all the other points, the Arena and the teams success but it is a huge advantage an a big reason why most Super Star Free Agents sign with their team.
Of course The Islanders need to prove they are moving in the right direction or all bets are off. A great start next year is huge for The Islanders in the negotiations imho.
