Yes.
Especially once the new owners are in place. Chuck Greenberg and Co. are going to be looking to make an immediate splash. - BINGO!
Silly to even consider that he would sign in carolina considering they are up with the islanders as 1 of 5 teams most likely to move cities

Two huge hurdles the Ilses need to overcome to have him sign longterm will be how the team does this year and who they bring in to help him and where the team will be playing their home games for the next decade. - Itsjustarash
Gonna be a hard sell without a building lined up and with only 10 guys under contract for next year. Something big is going to have to happen. He's not going to want to be built around for eternity. |

You know they're in the process of being sold to the former CEO of the Texas Rangers and a group of local investors, right? |

A) Pretty sure BINGO is joking around (with a degree of hope).
B) If JT doesn't sign with the Isles, he's going to Toronto. Just ask Leaf fan. |

Building, shmuilding. Who needs an arena to play in? There are tons of parking lots in NY they can play in. |

Yes. I do think they'll throw a ton of cash at him if given the opportunity, but I doubt he'd sign in Raleigh. |

I doubt he'd sign there too. Toronto or the Rags is where I think he'd end up as a UFA. |

Yep.
Guess it depends on who has $12 million they can throw at a guy like that. I figure if they can make the playoffs this season, they'll have an outside chance of signing him but it'll take a lot of convincing.
Does he like golf? Could go live at Pine Hollow or Wakefield or something... |

Now that he's done the honorable part and made a long term commitment to his lady, he can do the easy part and make a long term commitment to us dopey hockey fans. |

I dunno if Toronto will have the cash to do it.
They're at $45 mill for next year already and only have 13 NHL contracts on the books.
With no JVR, Komarov or Bozak after this season, and Nylander, Matthews and Marner all going to need new contracts, I'm not sure they're going to want to commit that kind of cash with those guys looking to get paid. |

I don't know either, but I would think that if JT wanted to go there, Lou would figure out a way to get it done. |

Maybe. If I'm Tavares' I let teams line up and give zero hints whatsoever. Players like him never hit UFA. Payday would be huge.
That said, if I'm Snow, I'm starting the bidding war. |

Why? Everyone knows that you weren't able to get him re-signed when he was with the Isles. Why would anyone think he would sign as a UFA. I get what you're saying, but Snow isn't that smart. Although he thinks he's smarter than everybody else. |

Nah, can't afford a $10M player. Matthews will get 9-10. Then we have value Kadri for 2nd line C. |

"...Tavares did commit to something long term this Summer as he proposed to his long-time girlfriend Aryne this month."

Eight years max, but from what I hear, the marriage proposal is structured so that he can walk away after 6 years - no alimony penalty. |

As weird as it sounds, the Leafs probably aren't interested.
We have more than enough centres.
Now if JT wants to play defence, we are interested. |

Thinking that JT is going to be around $12-$13m per. |
