Vessey had an ok year but he filled a need. The Rags core was getting old and they needed to inject some speed and youth and Vessey filled that imho. He also played 80 games.

The Islanders have no room at center and honestly I'm miffed that Snow had any interest with, Nelson, Beau and even Barzal competing for the 2C , 3C role.

Money will be the same anywhere so he gets to choose playing time and a fit and also which organization do you want to play for. Again it isn't The Islanders NFW!

He didn't pump in 60 goals and 45 assists. He had 27 points. You're right, he filled a need. Just like Kerfoot fills a need for the Rags. The Isles have no need for him.

these are the comments made by Isles fans that crack me up. they just lost their starting first line Center and one of their top 4 D-men b/c they had to make some cap room. They lose scoring and depth every year and replace it with kids. We have only lost to them once in the last 2 1/2 years. They are a top 5 goalie away from being the worst team in the Metro.. but they are better than the Isles and are better run that the isles?

Vesey went there b/c he knew he would get to play. That is the same reason Kerfoot should go there... They have no depth. Their young talent last year was a 3rd round pick that is a head case. ... A lot of teams are Better and run better than the isles. The Rangers are not one of them.

Not sure trading an overpaid center and an utterly putrid (and overpaid) defenseman qualifies as "losing" either.

While I don't disagree with either of your comments.. how then can anyone say they are run so well? They still have a bunch of overpaid putrid guys on that team.. Nash, Staal, Kreider.. and Vesey is making 3.77 mill cap hit this year. Can u imagine if Snow did these contracts/Trades? Girardi is gets 3.6 to not play this year.. and next year.. and it's on the cap.

So because the Isles have beaten them for 2 and a half years, their a better run organization? Come on, man. The Rags lose scoring depth every year. Yet they still make the playoffs. They have only missed the playoffs once since the 04-05 season. Since that time, they've been to the SC Finals once, the Conference finals 4 times and multiple 2nd round appearances. Every year the teams that win or make deep runs in the playoffs have to make cap moves. NYR, Chi, Wash, etc.
In contrast, and in that same time span, the Isles have made the playoffs 4 times. Advancing only once. Snow has had 11 years to make this team a contender. It's not even close. Snow needs to go.
As an aside, you make me laugh with your pro-Snow defenses. This organization is a complete circus. When was the last time the Rags were in the paper because of anything like the 3 goalies, or the GM refusing to call up a goalie because that goalies agent was mean to him. I'm an Isles fan and I hate the Rags, but I'm calling it like I see it. If you want to believe that this is the team that wins it all, that's fine. I don't begrudge you that. I hope it is. Just don't see it. Maybe a first round win.

Dude, there are a lot of teams with bad or expensive contracts. It's not just the Isles. DO you remember when the Isles were paying Yashin & DP to not play?

In the past 5 years they have been to the Stanley Cup final and the EC final twice. Not to mention they have made the playoffs 6 years in a row, failing to advance past the first round only twice. You don't have to think they're the best-run team in the league, but you really don't have a leg to stand on in saying that they are poorly run.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger

Alex Kerfoot expected to make a decision on NHL future soon. As many as 10 teams expressed interest. Van, NYR, SJ, NYI and Col in final 5.

So that's a thing. Maybe whoever it was that said we'd all freak out if the Isles signed Kerfoot will get to see if that prediction comes true.

They've only missed the playoffs once in 15 years. They're not the circus the Isles are. As much as I hate admitting that.

I don't care if the Isles sign him or not. They don't need him. But if they did get him, somehow, I'd just hope he can produce.

I don't know if I'd use the word "collapse", but I think they're heading towards a handful of unsuccessful years due to shipping out a ton of assets over the last half-decade.

They're always going to be a top destination for free agents and guys with NTC/L-NTC's because of where they play so they will likely always have a steady influx of non-organic talent that wants to play for them.

Well like I said last night....there is a possibility of a corresponding move if (unlikely) he decided to sign here. It wouldn't make any sense, for him, to sign here and be stuck behind 4 more (currently) talented centers.

And no Vesey's cap hit is 925k.

Every team that goes all in for the cup may have a few years of run. But eventually the well dries up. Just like Chicago will. Just like Washington. LA is sort of in a drought right now. I realize they won the cup 4 years ago, but they missed the playoffs 2 of the last 3 years.

What are your thoughts on the Rags making the playoffs? Hopeful? Certain? Feeling pretty good about it?

Yeah I do think that their success will taper off at whatever rate Hank's game declines at. I won't say they're on the verge of any sort of "collapse" because it's a desirable place for guys to play and they can build outside of just homegrown talent, in some capacity.

But with Skjei's permanent-graduation to the big club, I feel wholly comfortable saying that their prospect pool lacks any sort of (probable) game-changing talent. Andersson could be a player, but that remains to be seen. There is good depth spread around in their pipeline, but they lack any sort of high-end skill.

Not really sure, I think they will be middle of the pack team, could be slightly worse, could be slightly better.

Really going to depend on Zibanejad/Hayes as the 1/2, Vesey and Buch getting better.
Think the defense is a little better, with the exception of Staal.
