FWIW, here is how I'd rank the best players in the Flyers system that are 22 or younger as of 10/1/2017:

Honorable Mentions
Felix Sandstrom G
Morgan Frost C

10. Carter Hart G
Though he is unquestionably an elite prospect, goalie development from Junior to the NHL is by far the toughest to predict. IMO, this weighs down the ranking of any goalie on this type of list. That being said, Hart has as good a chance of any goalie prospect out there of being a top notch NHL starter.

9. Sam Morin D
Morin is going to be an NHL defenseman, probably as of game 1 of this upcoming season. The question marks are mainly in regards to his ceiling.

8. Robert Hagg D
Like Morin, he will likely be starting the season in the NHL. Hagg is a tough guy to get a read on. He doesn't truly excel in any one facet of the game, but he does everything well. As long as he remains focused, he should have a long and succesful NHL career

7. German Rubtsov C
Rubtsov comes in at #7 mainly due to his potential to be an impact player at the NHL level. I'm really looking forward to seeing how he does this year in Junior and in the World Championships. He has all the tools and if he continues to get stronger, I could see him challenging for a roster spot on the big club in 18-19.

6. Oskar Lindblom LW
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Lindblom will be an NHL player. The only question is can he excel in a top 6 role, or will he be a 3rd liner. Either way, I expect him to play for the Flyers this season.

5. Phil Myers D
Myers is an amazing package of size, speed, skill and smarts and has future top 4 NHL Dman written all over him. He has legitimate potential to be a top pairing guy as well. I can't wait to see how he looks going up against pros at the AHL level and it would not surprise me to see him get some games with the Flyers this season too.

4. Travis Sanheim C
The only reason Sanheim edged out Myers on my list is that he has already shown, with his 2nd half play last year, that he can excel at the pro level. He will be a Flyer soon and with his skating ability, he also has top pair potential.

3. Travis Konecny LW/RW
TK has already played successfully at the NHL level and that counts for a lot in my rankings. He has all the tools to be quality top 6 forward in the NHL.

2. Nolan Patrick C
Patrick will almost certainly be playing in the NHL this year at the age of 19 and he is legitimate potential 1C and perhaps a future team captain. His game is incredibly advanced and complete for a teenager.

1. Ivan Provorov D
20 years old, and already the teams best defenseman and a legit top pair guy. He is only going to get better too. Provorov does everything well and thinks the game at a world class level. He has the potential to go down as one of the top 2 or 3 dmen to ever play for the Flyers.

First season he was paired with Pronger
- Landsbergfan

Then which of the 4 from the prior season or 4 after Pronger's retirement were you referring to specifically?

Not really sure what you are getting at. The list is simply based on players who will still be 22 or younger as of Oct. 1, 2017.

I thought that for a second, actually, but then Patrick wouldn't be on the list, would he?

WOULD HE!?!?!?!?

Sorry, I read that as "This is a list as of 10/1/2017 of Flyers players that are currently 22 or under." Wording seemed odd to me, my apologies.

Matthews only scored 4 points in his first game.

He's not even worthy of being a bust.

I wish flyers TANKED for him instead to get a 1 round exit or a 9th place Matthews would have solved a ton of problems on this flyers team.

Yes, because recent history has proven that finishing last guarantees you a top-2 pick.

from Bill's NHL.com article...

"Every Draft looks different when you look back at after three years, four years or five years. So when you talk about young players, you have to be very careful about rushing to conclusions. With these kids, there's the drafting side and there's also the development side. Time will tell. What I can say is we feel good with how the group we have has been challenging themselves to get better each season."

I don't think this gets talked about enough. There are reasons to love/hate draft picks, but drafting is just the beginning. When a player doesn't perform as expected, it doesn't always mean it was a bad draft pick. The team needs to do a good job developing players.

"There were some assets acquired. The most notable additions were the 2011 draft picks acquired from Columbus in the Jeff Carter trade that were used on Sean Couturier (first round) and Nick Cousins (third round) as well as the acquisition of top LA Kings prospect Brayden Schenn in the Mike Richards trade along with established young NHLer Wayne Simmonds."

Don't forget Jakub in those assets, just shows how those two trades shaped this franchise for years down the road. Every single one of those players, even Cousins, were NHL caliber players who have helped the team in many ways.

100%!

I say this all the time, people say oh we passed up on him or drafted someone else than this guy. Its 100% possible that the guy we passed up on wouldn't have been the same player as he is on his current team

I remember Roman skating out of his crease gesturing to the bench during the flyers Ottawa implosion in the playoffs. I have never seen an effort by a team so lazy and disinterested. That's how the team looked although I would have to think the team was into the game.
At the time I commented that yeah I'd call out my team as well. After the emotion of the event calmed I knew that Roman would have to go. Should have said his piece in the locker room.

- bird_dog_pa

I absolutely loved that he did that. They completely deserved it. He was alone out there.

Cechmanek is one of my all time favorite Flyers.

"In the long term, Cechmanek hurt his stature by alienating some of his Philadelphia teammates."

This is an outrage!!!!!!!! Even though it is a part of Flyers history, it HAS to come down!!!!! We won't stand for this!!!!

Oh, wait..... STATURE ....... never mind

Thought he was saying the list was as of 10/1/17. I took the "that are 22 or younger" as the....not preposition, just the criteria for the list that was to be released as of 10/1/17.

Or I'm just an bumhole.

Great work as all Bill, thank you very much.

All I can say about Cechmanek is that if the Flyers were ever to put together an "all quirky" team, he would, without a doubt, be the starting goalie!

- BiggE

You think he would be the starter ahead of Bryzgalov? Not so sure about that one!

If "d%ck" is filtered to "Richard", then shouldn't "a55" be filtered to "donkey?"

It might be interesting to put together an all time Drama/Head Case/High Maintenance Flyers team.
