If FLA get in, it's because OTT is joining TOR on the outs. MTL might not be built to have much playoff success, but a series of lateral moves doesn't make them lose 10 points in the standings.

Fair. They were streaky during the entire time Therrien was coaching. I don't see them starting 10-0 as you point but likely less garbage 2 weeks happening too. As you say, have to wait and see. |

I won't bet on it because it should be a very tight race. a few games here, a few games there...
for the past 3 years, Habs under MT used to start the season very very strong, gaining a huge lead in the standings, and then taking it easy, slowing down after xmas. easier to make the playoffs when you're in front.
now with CJ, if they don't start 10-0, they will probably have to fight all year to stay in the top 8. I'm just not sure they have what it takes. the last 2 months of the season are pretty much playoffs hockey for teams looking for a spot, and as we all know, Habs are not built for the playoffs... |

I don't know if the strong starts are due to MT or have more to do with Habs' style of play mainly based on speed. At the begin of the season, the rythmn, pace and the physical aspect are a little more off, allowing faster teams to take advantage of it. As the season goes, the space on the ice gets tighter and make it more difficult for fast and smaller teams to create offense. Kinda see the same trend with the Hawks. |
