8 year deals are more risky when player is age 29 plus entering it. These three are going to be hitting prime near the end of an 8 yr deal though.

Yes can't believe what a sophmore jinx McDavid went through. Went from 48 points in 45 games all the way down to 100 points last year. What a bum, only won the scoring title, Ted Lindsay and Hart Trophies. Just imagine what he could have done if it wasn't for that sophmore jinx.

i think if they leave hyman on matthews wing his point total won't increase much, if at all and he won't have the #'s to ask for 9mm+ (if he doesn't clear 70-80 points). So Matthews 8-8.5mm & i think Marner & Nylander will get the Johnny Gaudreau 6.75mm deal

Not so sure Uncle Lou and Shanny brought Marleau here at $6 plus million to play on the 3rd or fourth line. Hyman nice guy sure, will be ok on PK and 3rd or 4th line. You are dreaming if you think Matthews will be less than $10 million a year. He will be among the goal scoring leaders I would expect among the point scoring leaders. 60 players in the NHL averaged more icetime than Matthews. If he gets bumped up to the 21 minutes a game like McDavid, (from his 17 minutes last season) point totals should imrove if stays healthy.
