I am not sure where to start....I guess I'll start with Sutter. what in the (frank) does Sutter's contract have to do with Bo? it's over in two years. why would that impact what you are paying Bo in 6 years? Are we desperate for cap space? This is a truly bizarre reason to not commit to Bo. they could trade sutter or buy him out if his contract was so atrocious. it isn't. truly bizarre

$5/ 5.5 million per year isn't elite $. Are you stuck in 2005? THat's what teams pay 2nd line players. I am not sure what else I can say on this matter. You clearly don't like Bo so we aren't going to agree

- CanuckDon

Again, I like Bo, just not as my 2C, if he does what he did this year again or produces more and consistently throughout the year which you say he can/will then I'd change my mind.

The reason I bring up Sutter is because I am assuming (hoping rather) that EP is that superstar 1C that will anchor our first line and command that elite 8.5/10mil contract. I also see us picking top 5-10 for the next 3 years so it's not inconceivable that we can potentially pick up a similar player to EP or better. The reason I want to dump Sutter is because we're going to need that cap space and roster spot and if Bo really IS that 'elite 2C' and should be paid like that, then we don't need Sutter and what little he brings. There's cheaper options at 3C like Gagner.

We can use some of that cap flexibility to maybe increase our prospect/draft picks by taking on a bad contract and burying that money in Utica. Something that I believe others have suggested. Again, I don't think Bo is worth 5.5-6/6+ yrs but again I am fully aware that's what he's likely to get in this era of the NHL. I get you consider him 'elite' but I don't, not yet and I'd like him to prove it first. Not my money, and my opinions like farts are just a bunch of smelly hot air.

Again, if he proves me wrong, so be it and I'll be the first to say you told me so.

Only team in the NHL that has a 50 points 3rd line center.

So Bo gets 5.5 for 6 years.
Sutter has 4 years left on his contract. After this season EP will sign a 3 years ELC.
So Van could have their top 3 centers at a combined 10.2 million for the last 3 seasons of Sutter's contract.

I dont think Pettersson is going to be our first line center, my guess once he hits the NHL he will be a winger.

So three top line forwards per team. 90 players. Plus two top pairing D, another 60 players. So out of 150 top line NHL players Bo made it in? Wouldn't that make him a 1st line player then?

So 52 points is elite now? We're that horrible that we consider 52 points a 1C? Are our expectations so low that we'll take that production to be first line now? I know the team has a lack of talent but that's kind of setting the bar super low don't you think?

Nobody is saying Bo is a 1C. Everybody is saying right now he's a really good 2C. 100K per point is the going rate for players. Bo scored 52 points last season on a pretty poopty team. Given a decent winger he will probably surpass that. Nobody is saying pay him over 6 million per season.

I wouldnt worry about Sutters contract dude, its really not bad at all, each team has players/contracts like that. By the time we need that money, it'll be coming off the books or worst case scenario, he could be a TDL or salary dump. He'll be 32 when its over, still with years left to compete if a trade was the best route. And a 15 team NTC, so it wouldnt be out of the question.

You wanna see some horrific anchor contracts, check out dipsh&ts like Backes, Ladd, Brown, 5 idiots on the Hawks, Parise, Suter, Dubinski, 50% of the Red Wings, Yandle, Staal, Phanuef, Bonino, Gaborik, i'd even consider Kopitars terrible. Erikssons is worst than Sutter.

His contract is easily absorbed in our position.
The day of good UFA's is going the way of the dodo.
Last 3yrs are time to measure his contract & much has to happen for it to matter.
The 6m isn't holding us back from what is needed to be done & happen.

Great problems to have in my opinion, especially when McD and Leon are you're 1/2 punch.
Realistically, Strome, Nurse, Benning, Slepyshev, Pakarinen, Cagguila are the RFAs you gotta keep and 14 mil is more than enough to get that done.
Maroon, Letestu probably walk but you have Puljujarvi, Khaira Yamamoto coming in plus a few plugs - i don't see it being a huge issue.

So 14 million to sign 5 players. Okay and the other 6 players they would need to sign when they are against the cap? I'm guessing math isn't your strong point.

Someone is going to have to go the same as they did with Eberle for STrome.

That Lucic $6m contract doesn't look too good now.
$7.5m potential bonuses this season also.
Chiarelli is still a moron apparently.

15m max for a back up goalie 3 D & 6 F's next year if no bonuses.

After next season. They will be selling a player a year like the Blackhawks.
11 players 1 mill and under. Only 2 on ELC.

Before they win 3 cups?
Pathetic cap management & never was a Chiarelli strong suit.
So forced to play ELC players not ready let alone not enough talent on the farm.
Just wonderful lol
