Yeah I will take your word. I can't say that I know how they tried to use him or what they expected out of him. Couple games I saw he looked like he had the abilities but was timid. Could be something as simple as not wanting to make mistakes. Tough when the language barrier is there,

I am bored at work and the Flames thread is dead so today its Canuckbuzz. I promise to play nice.

I think thats what they were trying to get from him. They apparently were showing him videos of Pronger and the report is they were wanting him to be that enforcer style D man, but I think they were just trying to teach him that the NHL needs aggressive and assertive dmen

when you use the word "supposedly", and post no proof/links, you lose all credibility. I need facts man, otherwise its speculation, and that accounts for nothing.

The Pronger Effect paragraph is essentially what he was referencing:
I don’t want Tryamkin to be Pronger because Pronger was a mean, dirty player, whose primary role in the NHL is more or less antiquated in today’s game because his kind of play is deemed dangerous and punishable.

The Pronger Effect

Which brings us to what I think was Tryamkin’s key complaint. The Canucks wanted Tryamkin to be Chris Pronger. Coaches showed Tryamkin video of Pronger and asked him to play that way. The head coach even called out Tryamkin after a late-season game, pinning a loss to Boston on Tryamkin’s shoulders because he didn’t “step up” on Brad Marchand.

Jason Botchford has pointed out that this is an unfair expectation because only Chris Pronger can be Chris Pronger; his talent was unique.

Honestly, I think everyone assumed the Canucks wanted him to be more physical, but I honestly think when it comes to what they wanted from him, it was to be more aggressive in all aspects of the word and not just hitting/fighting. Tryamkin gave forwards way to much space and ice time. He would always go into the corners, which is great, but he never took away space and never separated the opposing forwards away from the puck. Pronger wasn't a physical beast night in an night out, he was a excellent defender. If the Canucks showed Stecher clip of Pronger, would the fanbase expect Stecher to be a physical presence on the back end too? I think the media spins one little tidbit of information they may or may not have received, and try and make it into something enormous. Toronto Media, MTL media, Van media, the absolute worst in all of Hockey.

Thank you for the link. Again, I think people are misinterpreting the Canucks motive by showing Tryamkin clips of Pronger. Pronger was a first class defender before he was a first class enforcer. If Tryamkin cried and threw a pity party because the Coaches wanted him to adjust his game, then cut your losses and let Tryamkin weep in Russia for the rest of his career.

Prime example, A highlight package of a player that sets up no one unless by accident. There are 3 goals that are literally the same but from different games. Where in the NHL do you get to slash to the middle of the ice without being touched. 4 chances infront of the net without being knocked over. He starts a single play in the whole package.

Goal scorer or not, he doesn't do much else. Does not engage physically. Battles in a corner once, I think.

It's like watching Goldy play last season.

I think there is an incorrect relationship between aggressive and physicality in hockey. Tryamkin did give way too much time and space to players, he was in contain-mode most of the time. Tanev on the other hand is aggressive when he defends, limiting time and space. He knows when to attack the puck-carrier and when to back off

The Canucks probably did want him to be a little more physical, but I think the staff wanted to show him a big guy could close the gap and force mistakes (I never saw WD as a enforcer-loving coach). Similarly, Jordan Subban is watching Ellis defend to see how someone of a similar size can effectively play in his own end

I don't see anything wrong with management showing a player, clips of another successful NHL player, and saying "hey look, this guy is successful, makes a ton of money, playing a style which we feel you would benefit from, why don't you take a look" lol. Tryamkin is a wuss.

I really don't need to watch an entire game. A 5 minutes highlight package will show you.

I sure hope the Canucks don't scout that way.

Notice they have him listed as a LW where the enthusiasm here from others is because they think he's a top 1LC at NHL level.

Check out these rankings that have some stats detail:

https://canucksarmy.com/2...iminary-rankings-6-to-10/

He's a good mean player who probably has a power forward NHL future with average skating. His season at BU will show more adaption to faster game.
