Today @ 3:00 PM ET
A two-way forward playmaker. I haven't seen the word "dynamic" in any description.

An intelligent puck possession playmaking center who can play on the wing that has good passing ability whether stationary or at speed. Uses the give and go well and can draw defenders to create time and space for his line-mates. Is a quick darting skater with the agility to dodge and roll off defenders. He defensive game has matured once his defensive habits such as an active stick, head on a swivel, taking correct angles became consistent. He lacks size and strength to compete and win one on one battles for pucks and body position so he must use his hockey sense and skating to compensate. He is beginning to shoot with greater frequency which makes him less predictable with the puck in the offensive zone.
Based on those three reports, it’s clear that Kerfoot has the potential to be a good offensive player in the AHL, with perhaps the chance to play some games in the NHL.

Players like these are getting more 4th line roles so he doesn't have to be top 9 to make impact at NHL level. Might be another Megna and really only AHL level depth. But could be a smaller Hansen type.

This is why the Canucks need to continue to look for high-end talent via the draft, they don't have it in abundance. Not to take anything away from the picks they've made, I like them, but the high-end guys are still absent IMO.
- LeftCoaster

How many do they need?

I don't see many players with that skill set playing 4th line minutes.

if you follow the penguin model, and lock up your top two franchise centerman for big money, you still aren't getting even close to the same deal. Malkin @ 9.5, Crosby @ 8.7. McDavid @ 13.25, Draisatl at 8.5. That is insane money on EDM's part. Don't get me wrong, Draisatl and McDavid are beast players, but that cap hit though.

In all seriousness though, EDM will have to look at maybe getting rid of RNH, and start shedding some cap, or risk losing decent players.

- Codes1087

I think Draisatl's contract will be ok for EDM. I dont think it'll end up being a steal like some long term deals ended up for teams, but reasonable.

My hunch is that this deal, and the Bruins wanting 6+ years on Pastrnak, are good signs that Bo will end up in in a long term contract with a decent cap hit

I think 8.5 is going to look very good. They essentially found a way to pay the same price as Crosby/Malkin in the hopes that's what they have. I think Draisaitl is that good.

Avs sign Toninato... couple more names will roll in today. I think Kerfoot lands with us. butcher with Buffalo(eichel). Just my hunch.

I guess it all depends on how much contracts rise over the next 8 years. McDavid has certainly pushed the AAV limits up and as long as they are both on the Oilers they should continue to help elevate each other

I'm still against Bo getting north of 5mil for 6 years. I'd rather sign him for 2 years and see if he maintains and/or improves on last years totals and then give him the long term/big money contract because he'll have earned it then. Plus in 2 years, we should have everyone we need ready to go for the playoffs and compete and it'll make more sense then to lock Bo up long-term.

Well, I think there are three assumptions you can make as a GM.

1) AAS of players will continue to rise. It has consistently for ten years, it's not going to stop now.

2) The Salary cap will rise. as the AAS goes up, it necessarily will have to adjust.

3) you can safely predict regression or progression in terms of ppg at around
+/- .2ppg on average. This puts Draisitl between 60-85 point.

Given his ability to play center or wing and his playoff performance(the best on the team). I think this is a very good long-term lock up.

I think this is fair value, Monahan is right about here.

Yeah, even I agree with what deals were signed this off-season that he will, I just don't think he's worth it or earned it yet and I'd prefer him on a two year show me contract/bridge deal and then if he maintains and/or improves on his totals, then give him the big money/long-term deal. I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I don't see him being our best player for years to come. I think EP and possibly whoever we draft this year will be and will want more money and term than Bo and that could cause us cap problems down the line.

EDIT: It's also why we need to dump Sutter immediately if Bo is getting that kind of term/dollars. He's useless to us at this point and we can use Gagner for 3C instead.

With Sutter @$4.375/yr Bo gets that plus some.

Term is debatable.
$5.25m/5yrs & he goes for a big final contract?
Or
$5.75/8yrs & match the LE contract nearly?

I don't see Bo getting more but my guesses r approximates.

Contracts on the team aren't comparable. His agent will be referring to other players around the same age, same pts, TOI ect. I do think you're in the right range regardless.

The team comparables r for Canucks salary structure mostly.
League comparables r more difficult when i project him as a 2C.

What you project him as isn't a factor. Similar players based on age/performance/position: Barkov, Monahan, Galcheyuk, Trochek, Rask

Would a line like Goldy Sutter Gagner work? Two offensive minded quick players with a solid two way center.

Is that more welcome over creating a shut down line for this season of experimenting?

Barkov & Monahan r 1C so not good comparables imo
Projections r salary related & will be a tool in negotiations.
Galchenyuk is more likely a barometer.
Trochek is probably the best comparable.

Can always count on the Sedin's to shutdown the other teams.

For starters Sutter is not a great playmaker.
If Gagner were to lead the way to distribute the puck it could be interesting.
The problem i have is where do all the wingers play?
Daniel LE BB Sven Granny...1 is the odd man out on the 4th line.

Although our prospect pool is very healthy there is also a logjam on the wing.
Great for competition creating a nice problem. Prospects can develop & Utica is stronger for it. Could also mean trade assets heading into the TDL & offseason.

Key suggestion was experimenting season as in not looking to win games over creating offense. Shut down lines are great for playoffs.

especially since Draistail got like 8.5 today.

I've always figured it will be a 6x6 deal for horvat, somewhere in that range
