It worked for about as long as Pacioretty-Galchenyuk worked.

0.9ppg over that 60 games I mentioned. 70pts per season would be an acceptable 1C in today's NHL.
- kev1586

By that logic there are maybe 10 first line centers in the NHL. Toews technically only had 1 70 pts season. Is he no longer a first line center? 55-60 seems like a more reasonable criteria imo.

1. I was arguing in favour of Galchenyuk.
2. Galchenyuk doesn't play D like Toews or Bergeron so to be a relevant 1C, he'd have to be in the 60-70 point range for me. This is the exact reason people whining about Danault as 2C are nuts. 40points and Selke like D is good enough for me out of Danault.
3. The fact that the criteria for all positions on the roster aren't agreed upon is likely we keep having these debates.
4. Refer back to my comment on Galchenyuk essentially being an unknown for best evaluation of this entire debate.

"When he was suspended by Tampa Bay for refusing to suit up in the AHL I was on Drouin's side... Drouin doubled down on himself by taking a stand and waiting for a deal."

Drouin acted like the opposite of a team player. Tampa was stacked at forward and Drouin wasn't outplaying the guys ahead of him on the depth chart. Yeah he showed skill and potential but he was soft on the puck and was a turnover machine. It made sense to send him down to play big minutes and work on his overall game, yet he acted like a whiney little female dog.

I agree with all of your statements, except the point totals. I'd be very surprised if he managed 70 points. If he scores 55-60 points playing center I'd be very happy with that.

Right now Habs have too much 2nd-3rd line small wingers...I think one of Gallagher-Byron-Shaw needs to go for picks/prospects. Maybe Byron could fetch something decent considering his contract and the season he had last year.

P.S. Danault is the new Plek with a lot less offense...

- BashCH

I don't think Danault's offence will be significantly worse than Plecs. Actually I think it will be as good or better over time. Danault will make a fine #3 center. It is the expectations of him on a first or second line that are overreaching. As a third liner I think he is at least league average, and young enough to get better.

If he's scoring 40-45 points per year and playing solid D, he's 2C, no? And Plekanec has scored in the 50 point range for many seasons. So either his offense is as good as Plekanec and he's a solid 2C. Or it isn't and he's a fine 3C.

Just what they need, another 7th defenseman. Never enough of those, just like 3rd-4th line wingers.

Keep a pair that can actually produce and match Chucky on the 2nd line to generate "secondary" offense.

Chucky once played great hockey with Gally. Why not try Lek-Chucky-Gally?
