That Recchi 92-93 season almost got Forsberg out of there on my list -- that really was an amazing season he put up
- AllInForFlyers

Yup, he was an offensive machine, but it was a much more wide open game still then and they were a terrible defensive team. If he had put up those numbers on a winning team, he would have ranked a lot higher on my list.

Agreed -- it wasn't his fault, certainly, but I won't lie that team success isn't a bias I have

In my top 25 I'd probably replace Therien with Johnsson and Hextall with Mason

So, FWIW, here are my top 25 Flyers of the last 25 years:

25. Kim Johnsson D
24. Jaromir Jagr RW
was only here 1 season but he was a huge positive influence on many players
23. Mike Knuble RW
22. Sean Couturier C
21. Chris Therien
doesn't always get the respect he deserves, was a top pair guy here for many years
20. Peter Forsberg C
would be much higher if he had just played here a little longer
19. Michael Renberg RW
injuries knocked him down the list.
18. Jake Voracek RW
17. Mike Richards C
16. Wayne Simmonds RW
scores around 30 goals every year and intangibles matter
15. Jeff Carter C
14. Ron Hextall G
while not as good as his first stint with the team, he played very well for them in the mid 90s and reacquiring him in 94 was a big reason why they returned to the playoffs in 95.
13. Scott Hartnell LW
great guy, both on and off the ice
12. Chris Pronger D
sadly, a couple more healthy seasons would have put him in the top 5
11. Keith Primeau C
there are things about Primeau many don't like, but he was the perfect 2 way center for Ken Hitchcock and his play in the 04 playoffs was amazing
10. Jeremy Roenick C
As a commentator, he needs to shut the (frank) up, as a player, he left it all on the ice.
9. Danny Briere C
Mr. Playoffs.
8. Simon Gagne LW
One of the great Flyer left wings of all time
7. Mark Recchi RW
an offensive machine in each of his stints with the team
6. Kimmo Timonen D
the Finnish warrior was one of the best all around Dmen in Flyers history
5. Rod Brind'amour C
An ironman and a complete player in every facet of the game, should have never been traded,
4. Eric Desjardins D
ranks #2 on my list of all time Flyers Dmen after only the incomparable Mark Howe
3. Claude Giroux C
G has carried this team for a while now, glad to see that they are finally getting him some help.
2. John Leclair LW
it's a toss up between him and Bill Barber for best LW in team history. Leclair was a goal scoring machine.
1. Eric Lindros C
No question who is at #1. When healthy in his prime, he was simply unstoppable.

I replace Jagr with Jeff Carter and I agree.

Third Career all time in wins.

Hextall in my view gets a lower spot due to his first stint being stronger than his second.

Fine 25, Bill. I'm trying to find a justifiable way to include Peter Svboda. To me, he's very underrated for that flyers era

BGSM doesn't get a spot ahead of Hextall or even Roman Cechmanek IMO.

And I like BGSM.

Certainly wouldn't put him ahead of Hextall, even in his 2nd stint, Hextall led them to victory in 6 playoff series. That has to count for something

Hextall had a few more only wins than BGSM in the time frame listed. I was also considering that his save pct compared to GAA is kinda ugly in the second stint. Trap?

Cechmanek had too short a career to consider him

Id take Svboda over Therien. i think he was more skilled with the puck better all around. Svboda could play all situations. Theriens game meshed very well with Dejardins for whatever reason and you cant take away the way he he played when paired with him....or against jagr haha. But over their entire body of work, i take Svboda

Edit....while without a doubt Svboda had a better overall career, i didnt realize he only played 3 full seasons here, one being cut short because of the Marc Bureau headshot

Just for more fun. I like lists

Top 5 Lines for the last 25 years (no minimum in seasons, but do have to have played together for at least one, reasonably)

5. Gagne-Richards-Knuble
4. Hartnell-Carter-Lupul
3. Hartnell-Giroux-Jagr
2. Gagne-Forsberg-Knuble
1. Legion of Doom

Therien was an NFL all-rookie team selection with Dmitry Yushkevich as his partner and also did well with Kjell Samuelsson as his partner the next year. So it wasn't just a matter of later being paired with Desjardins.

I think longevity should be a big factor in putting together the list otherwise I might consider Matt Carle on my list. Carle has some outstanding seasons as a Flyers and put up some elite numbers.

I'm still taking Svoboda based on his body of work. Therien was a fine player, but I just think Svoboda was better.

Ha! I have them at No. 7, behind Gagne-Primeau-Kapanen -- that was a sneaky-good two-way line

I made an edit not realizing how little time Svboda was here compared to Therien.

Someone needs to do a list that somehow involves Andrej Meszaros, preferably one that isn't "Top 5 players with first name Andrej/last name Meszaros.

Edit: Top-5 bottom-pair defensemen???
