Making 6 million per season and he couldn't be interested for 15 to 20 minutes a game... Unbelievable. So glad he's gone. If Strome plays with any heart at all, I'll be happy with the trade. - laughs2907
But if his results are half as good, who cares how much harder he appears to try??
I'll be happy if he's within 15pts of ebs And/Or 45 pts overall.
Anything less and it's a big step backwards I think |

I think the fans, his teammates, the coaching staff, and the management should all care. When he's out there floating around not doing anything, he's putting the whole team at an unnecessary disadvantage... The guy could be amazing, but he's lazy as (frank)... That's what's so frustrating about him. It's an incredibly sh1tty attitude to have, and I wouldn't want it anywhere near my team. It seems that the Oilers agreed. I'm just happy he's gone. |

How can you call Edmontons fan base anything but patient? - vertigo2002
Eight August/Septembers in a row of young fans showing up on here in droves, trash talking up the hype of their most recent high end player and how he will finally turn things around, and then disappearing by December will do it.
80% of the fanbase is about as patient as a swarm of locusts. |

I can understand that. There are those who have felt that way for a number of years and I won't criticize someone for sticking to their convictions. However there are many fans who weren't complaining of that when he was scoring 25 or more goals and his style of play (little defensive drive) wasn't any different then. - freelancer
That's pretty clearly because the team wasn't often in a position to win. His gaffes and shortcomings were finally highlighted under the microscope of success and led to his (and the team's) undoing once playoff time came around.
When you're not in positions to defend leads as often, most players on the team are bad enough to be making mistakes left and right so his brand of lackadaisical play blends in. Once the team is in that position and most other players are putting in more than requisite effort and making fewer mistakes, then there's nowhere for Eberle to hide his mistakes in. |

And here I was trying to have a reasonable conversation - freelancer
Not so far fetched when you look at their size and point totals in the Dub! Probably a better comparison than Johnny.
Watch 40 + who games each year, Phillips stood out in his draft year, probably cause i saw him play 4 times. Didn't notice Yam this year but in all fairness i only watched Spokane once. Time will tell if Chia picked the right guy. |

I don't see how. Yamomoto produced better numbers in his draft-1 year (71 points in 57 games) than Phillips did in his draft year (76 points in 72 games) and he has consistently been an offensive leader on his teams. Phillips has also had the benefit of having a stronger Victoria Royals team around him than Yamamoto has had in Spokane.
Both Johnny and Kailer are extremely talented small wingers who lit up their respective leagues through a combination of elite playmaking, a sneaky shooting arsenal and being incredible skaters. One is currently 5'9 (NHL measurements) and the other is currently 5'8 (WHL measurements).
Just because you don't want the comparison to be true, doesn't make it any less apt. |

So I take it you've never watched both play live? Your stats show the resemblance.Tre just took a chance with a 6th round pick where as Chia did with a 1st. Well see if Yam breaks out for 100 pts this year. Teams tend to focus on players taken high in the draft, lets see how he does with the extra attention before we proclaim future star.

His size is the biggest thing going against him... I was not and still am not a fan of the pick. All things considered there wasn't anything better on the board (yes i do realise that other players could emerge after the fact). |

As far as points go they are very similar, albeit with Yamamoto averaging a slightly high ppg with fewer games.
Looking at scouting reports, both are heralded as fast players, with quick hands. The biggest differences between the players is Phillips play away from the puck is extremely suspect as is his tendency to shy away from physical play. Yamamoto meanwhile is noted for his two way play as well as his tenacity and skill with puck possession while engaging with the opposition. Yamamoto has shown he is not afraid to be physical.
End of the day these kids are all prospects and it will be years before we know if these players can make the jump but that's just a couple clear reasons on why one is a first rounder and the other was a sixth. |
