Actually had a different perspective on Clarke. I grew up in north Jersey as a fan starting in the 60's, pre expansion Ranger fan. Hated the Flyers. Was Rags AND Isles fan and the Isles were a huge impact in their era. I moved full time to Bucks County in 81, watched the end of the Isles run, but was starting to lean to the Flyers. Remember, bad cable options and no internet. The paper was it for news and local Hockey news was what you got. By 1985 I was behind the Flyers and was crushed by Pelle's passing. Hexy was the key that locked me in. Kerr was a beast in front of the net. Loved that team.
I still remember the Bully days and while I hated him then as the "enemy" Clarke was an amazing player. He had some mad skills and fought for the puck on every inch of the ice and NEVER EVER quit on it. Happy Birthday Mr. Clarke and many more I hope. RIP Mr. Murray you will be missed. Good hockey people passing always leaves a void.

Exactly. I moved to Bucks in 85 and couldn't believe what had happened, Clarke was GM, Howe was playing D (???!!!). I remembered him as a winger with Houston in the WHA where he and his family used to crush my Crusaders. I'm certain Clarke laughed about it then and does today. Why shouldn't he? He is an all time great, by every account I've heard he's a great, down to Earth person. He can do what he wants. Hahahaha.

The 80s, yes... when the Flyers reached the Cup Finals three times, once with Clarke as a still-important player (and assistant coach to Pat Quinn) and the other two as a GM. Or the 90s when he was GM of North Stars and the Flyers teams that reached the Finals and two other Flyers teams that reached the conference finals. Or the early 2000s with two more Flyers GMs that fell just one win short -- in 2-1 finals in Game 7 both times -- of getting back to the Cup Finals.

As a player, Clarke's Flyers went at least to the SC semis six straight years (1973 to 1978), the Cup Finals three straight years (1974 to 1976) and won the Cup back-to-back years (1974 and 1975). Oh, and they dominated the Red Army in Jan. 1976 after no other NHL team including the Canadiens (tie) had beaten them during their tour of North America.

Yeah, Clarke was a real disgrace as a player and a terrible GM. Just awful. Now go back in your troll hovel.

Yeah, I really don't get what kind of satisfaction someone gets from messaging someone who they KNOW has no interesting in communicating with them.

I've been spared that I guess because I just have ignored him, except for flagging his annoying comments, which are about 90% of them. He will rarely make an interesting hockey point and then just go back to being an a$$. NO ONE IS INTERESTED IN YOUR STUPID COMMENTS!

perhaps a trip back to his "TROLL HOVEL" (TM) Bill!

Kimmo getting his Cup is one of my favorite non-Flyer NHL moments.

Some others would be:
Lanny McDonald finally getting a Cup in 89
Ray Bourque finally getting his in 2001
seeing Gordie Howe live, playing in the NHL in 1980 and seeing him in one last all star game that same season

I once met Howe at a signing when I was 10 years old and about 75-80 pounds. He called me, "Muscles."

{edit} : Shall you be hence forth known to all as "Muscles"?

I met him once in Warminster. I was a ref in the tourney that weekend and did the game his son played in. Kid had Dad's stride. Best kid on the ice.

Mark is super nice.

When it comes to giving their all every moment they are on the ice and always putting the team first? Quite a few guys

Bill Barber
Paul Holmgren
Brad Marsh
Dave Poulin
Ron Hextall
Rod Brind'amour
Eric Desjardins
Sami Kapanen
Derian Hatcher
Jason Smith
Kimmo Timonen
Wayne Simmonds

- BiggE

I was gonna list mine with my original comment. Hatcher, Smith, Simmonds were also on my list but it would have been half buying into Flyers stereotypes. Pronger and Roenick would have also made my list. I feel Jeremy Roenick gave everything he had left as a top center.

Troll hovel!!

I met Bobby Clarke at the Wayne Gretzky Restaurant in Toronto before the Leafs/Flyers gave Mike Richards rookie season when he scored his first shorthanded goal while two men down. Eric Lindros was a Leaf and scored on us. I drunkenly smacked Clarke when he walked by. He was cool about it and shook my hand.
