Great leader too and we can spare the forwards - Byfuglien Ate Me
Plus in a pinch Buff could move up to forward if at all necessary. I know that he hasn't done that in years but he was pretty damn good at the position when he did. I think that I'd still rather the Leafs try to find better options because I feel that they do exist. But I'd certainly be ok with the move if it were ever made. Even if only for the size & versatility.

I really need the season to start so actual plays and calls can be debated instead of player moves. This mythical Dman/JVR thing is like staring at a glacier for a thousand years.

One thing I do like about Hainsey is the versatility. He can play up and down the pairings and left and right side. I think most Pens fans would cringe though at seeing him top pairing.
Rosen, Borgman and Liljegren all starting on the Marlies would be great. They both signed two years deals so a year of Marlies was probably always the plan. - Blazed
Seemed to work in the playoffs...seeing how they won the cup. *Shrugs*

I'm actually really enjoying the mistakes and miscalculations blogs...I don't know why you aren't Zezel? - LeftCoaster
Oh I'm enjoying Mike's blogs about that. It's the greatest time ever to review Leaf mistakes, because they contrast so sharply with this current era it makes me appreciate even more living during the dawn of the new Blue and White Evil Empire.
It's the silly-ass 2nd pairing Dman for a Lindros-esque package talk that's wearing thin.

I'm fine with going into camp as is...
Dermott, Rosen, Borgman, Carrick and even Nielsen to a lesser degree are all players who could surprise us and play a large role or even just some sort of role for the Leafs.
I'd like to see lilagren in some pre season games too...you never know.
But hey if the right trade comes along for a top 4 D I'm sure Lou would pull the trigger. But we have some guys with potential...let's see how they play.
Can always make a mid season deal or make a deal for a d man at the deadline...there are plenty.

This is exactly how I see it.
Last season put them ahead of schedule so there's no reason to not be patient. They showed over the second half and against the Capitals they can make the playoffs and go on a run even without a huge splash trade.

Bring Franson and Beachamin on a PTO. Then it creates a pretty healthy competition for the 4,5,6 spots...kinda like the competition for forward spots last year and we all know how that turned out.
If we are 1st or 2nd or even 3rd in the Atlantic. I could totally see Lou trading for a D at the deadline.

Carolina is a perfect example.
Go look at Slaavin and Pesce's hockey db profiles.
Pesce is a 3rd round pick and Slaavin is a 4th round pick.
Pesce played like 5 games in the AHL after college and then jumped in to the NHL that season and played a full season. At a young age
Slaavin played like half a season in the AHL after college with decent numbers then jumped in. At a young age.
2 years ago both these guys were what Dermott, Borgman, etc
Were. They were nice prospects...not high end top 5 pick prospects but they were talented prospects who were given a chance.
I'm not saying we have those caliber of players in our prospects but they have the potential so let's give them a chance
