Well because Tanner literally included Tanev in the same sentence as Burns. So, I think somebody has jumped the shark when it comes to using advanced stats.

A lot of homer love for Alberta teams and some pity points for OEL.

No defenseman from Edmonton, Calgary, or Ari should be considered top 5 in the west. Heck, you could argue Nashville's top 4 is better than guys from those teams.

Yeah, I don't really get the love for Tanev. From what I can see in his numbers and what I've watched he's solid, but unspectacular. He's the best defenseman in Vancouver, but that doesn't really count for much these days.

They have to lighten his playing time.

Guys plays way too many minutes that LA starts to crash and burn by the end of the season. Its taking its toll on him.

It's interesting that Josi would've probably been in most people's top 5 in the West last offseason and, now, isn't, despite just going to the Final. I guess that that's the Subban effect.

Also, there's a lot of grousing over Tanev when more attention should be paid to Tanner suggesting that Muzzin is as good as Doughty, Burns, Subban, Keith and company and could be a Norris-winning #1 on a Cup-winning team. How that goes uncommented on, I don't understand.

Possibly the best defensively in the league (def top 5), and still hovers around top 10 or 15 in dman scoring.

No other dman in the league can say they are among the top 10 dman in the league at both ends of the ice.
