Can't wait for the Sabres to trade Eichel because he was "part of the previous regime"

Can we just keep talent here? Please?

- sbroads24

like evander kane?

Does this mean that the Sabres have to put off the news of the Tavares trade until next week ?

Apparently a crappy CB and a 2nd round pick

Would have been better off keeping him IMO

- Stripes77

darby was a crappy cb
watkins was a drama queen, taking plays off

I'd rather pay mathews much less, have a cheaper cb that plays the same level as darby and add a 2nd and 3rd rd pick

only way they were keeping watkins is to tag him, and of course he wants nba money

team got better in the locker room and payroll

didn't get much worse for september

and got a a lot better for draft day

IMO this was more about whaley vs the new guys today

Of those 70 catches he averaged 3.14 yards (he only has 220 more yards than Watkins) and only 2 more TD's...

That's not good production from a WR

- Stripes77

Matthews is a #3.

We again have a below average wideout situation

he had mark sanchez as a qb

you are better than this

- homiedclown

And who did Watkins have?

Orton, EJ and Taylor

His production per game was really really good with Taylor

Tweaked and returned to practice the next day and then played last night and caught 4 balls for 40 yards in half a quarter
- Stripes77

*elite* talent.

Obviously I don't think in a million years they trade Eichel, but I'm tired of constant change with no results.

why because he had a rookie qb and sanchez?

eagles wr group was crap

it was mathews with double coverage and ertz

that was it ,with a rookie qb

but it doesn't seem like they were intent upon keeping him...if they wanted him he'd have been extended

It's how they secure their jobs. Beane/McDermott come in, flip the roster over and buy themselves 2-3 years. If they used the same players, didn't tank, then they'd be sitting on the hot seat sooner. This buys them time where results don't matter.

I will say this.. They play a different kind of game. Matthews is a slot, chain mover. Watkins is a home run hitter. That's why their stats would say that Matthews has more catches, while yards are the close to equal. The question for Bills fans is do you need the homerun threat, or can you methodically move the ball down the field. I'm not a Bills fan (Packers) but Matthews is one of the best in the slot right now. Always was misused in Philly. Keep him where he excels, and the tradeoff at the wr position wont look that bad.

Zay Jones and Boldin are those type of possession receivers

They traded a real #1 (health I know)
for a 3WR and a draft pick

When you have guys like Clay and McCoy out of the back field you don't need a Mathews type

He's been here 3 years.

A year and a half of it he was a legit #1. His rookie year he was excellent, but had Orton and EJ throwing to him, and the second half of 16 he has a top 5 wideout

You're acting like he was a total bust that has been here 5 years.

I get what we are doing, but we just handed the keys to a 37 year old Boldin, and rookie Zay Jones. A year after we complained about having an awful WR corps.

- sbroads24

Holy cow, I thought for a moment I was reading a different poster trying to defend E. Kane. Let's just change "legit #1" to legit left wing; change "Orton and EJ throwing to him" to he's been on some crappy teams with crappy coaches; and change "top 5 wideout" to he's one of the best 5 on 5 scorers in the NHL.

You've bashed Kane forever because he doesn't stay on the ice, but Sammy gets a pass because....???
How ironic and funny.

No he isn't. He is one of only five players to have 65+ receptions and 800+ yards in his first 3 seasons. The others? Moss, Green, Evan, OBJ. Am I saying he's as good as them? No. He's not a number 3.

Well then it looks as if they plan on playing sound defense, dink and dunk down the field. Or in other words, possession ball. It may be boring, but it has been effective before in the NFL.

Evander Kane has been in the league 8 years. He is who he is. He's had all the opportunities in the world. He's a 40 point winger

Watkins is an elite talent

the eagles number 2 wr did not even get 400 yards

he is a very good wr that will cost 1/3 of what it would cost to sign sammy
