So losing a streaky (who isn't?) 25-goal power play specialist winger who disappeared altogether for stretches has dampened your excitement for the likes of:

Provorov year 2
Konecny year 2
2 or 3 of Morin, Sanheim, Hagg
Patrick
Ghost year 3
Lindblom
Weal given a full chance

Sorry, there's just too much for me to be excited about to complain about trading Schenn.

I swear, talking to some of you is like a woman with huge boobs, in a low cut short talking to a guy about wall paper. I say one thing, you hear another. I didn't even say Schenn's name. I've said numerous times Mason was equally as big a loss as Schenn. This isn't my first go around with an impressive rookie group entering the roster.

I even blatantly and flat out said what my point was in the original post.

Each and everyone of you made my argument. You're excited for individual play.

I'm excited to see how all the young kids impact the team. I'm excited to see what SHOULD be a team that can roll out 4 solid lines.

And I was just pointing to the fact that you (not in this particular case) have brought about the loss of Schenn in several unrelated posts before, and have gone so far as to say that Hextall has given up on the season due to trading Schenn and not resigning Mason.

But to answer your original queston, yes, I am very excited to see how this team does this year with the influx and growth of so many young players.

Please feel free to tell me more about this large-breasted woman.

I don't think Patrick will replace Schenn's numbers this year. And we could have held onto both. Yes, it is a short step back short-term for a potential 2-3 steps forward long-term. So the offense will probably take a small step back from what it could have been this year to hopefully be more than it would have been 2-4 years from now.

Even more than getting 2 1st rounders, we're also opening up $5.25M of cap space when Provorov and Simmonds are due their extensions.

What I'm hoping is Patrick/Lindblom can exceed the goal totals for Schenn/whoever gets forced out of the Top 9. That I think is doable but I think there's a really good chance they'll come up short on goals. They need to improve on both ends of the ice but they will be working in more kids on the blue line which, as an old Dman, I'm very excited about.

I liked the way Schenn played the last two years. (mostly after Luke was traded.) I was shocked he was traded. If they think they have some one that can fill his PP spot (Lindblom maybe) then the even strength scoring should be replaceable as well.
That being said, Lehtera actually can play center and two firsts are HUGE for Schenn.
It DOES weaken the team short term and didn't open a roster space since we got a player back. I have no problem with Lehtera on the fourth line and Schenn would have been worthless there.
So the set back short term may not be as big as some fear and may move the team forward quicker.
I am super excited for the season to start. I see at LEAST 4 rookies on the team out of camp and maybe as many as 6 if all three D men stick and Veccs along with Lindblom and Patrick. Can't wait and NOT just because it is August and I am fr3eaking Dying here without Hockey.
This team is going to be fun to watch.

I can't see the goal total going down. Assuming Patrick/Lindblom can cancel out Schenn's production, I think both of G and Voracek will rebound (at least slightly), Ghost will improve somewhere between last year his rookie year. Another year from Provorov and Konecny should bring at least marginal gains. A healthy Couturier will help, plus, if Sanheim comes in he'll add some as well. The only player I could see taking a big step back would be Simmonds.

Now the goals against, that's a different matter.

If these young players deliver, it could be a fun team to watch. They looked much better at the end of the season but I still see quality depth up front as the biggest problem. If Patrick can come in and put up the numbers Schenn did, I'd be more than happy with that but I think both Frost and Ratcliffe have to eventually be Top 9 forwards to call this deal a win.
- fls13

My argument is more so there is very little middle ground between declining vets and inexperienced players. I wanna see the kids as much as anyone but I've see young Flyers teams before. My excitement will come from the names I mentioned exiting and this team legitimately contending.

I'd like to see them legitimately contend for a playoff spot this year, but I see little margin for error.

Couturier . . . his numbers went up when he played with Schenn late in the season.

Hextall has gone all in with the kids and I hope it pays off this season. If it does, yeah they'll be a blast to watch. I think they're one legit Top 9 forward away from being a real playoff contender. I hope I'm wrong or Hextall can do something in season.

What exactly is "Zone Entry defense?" I can figure out Zone Exits, but this can't be saying that Ristolainen denies 70+% of opponents entering the zone.

Edit: Nevermind, just saw the key. Maybe they could have made it bigger and used different colors as opposed to different shades.

Keep in mind, you brought up Schenn. If anyone believes for one second Brayden Schenn kept young players from entering this line up, or is overpaid, or isn't good enough to play for this team is a fool. There is plenty of garbage to shovel out this door on this team. I'm excited to see these kids play but make no mistake, I'm not excited for another year of players we don't even want anymore because they can't hack it. Schenn just had a pretty good year, which is why he brought in the return he did. Average Players like Read, Filppula, Lehtera, Raffl, Weise and how they are Angkored to the Philadelphia Flyers organization is what keeps young players from making this team. If Hextall wants to make a true statement and contend much sooner than later, trade Claude Giroux. Giroux will bring in as good, if not better a return than Schenn and clearly G isn't getting any better.

Yes, in this particular case, I did bring him up.

I think Giroux's value is at an all-time low right not. Due to his age, play last season, and cap hit, I don't think he'd bring much more than Schenn.

However, since he's NOT trading Giroux/Voracek/Simmonds, I'd say that's a sign that he's not chalking this up as a lost season. Also, I think there are enough spots open right now for the younger players to make the team, defense and forwards alike.

Like I said, I believe that he wants to be successful in the short term while incorporating younger players to build a contender in 2-3 years. I don't view his losing of one or 2 veterans as giving up on a season.
