First of all, I do not hate the Jets, not by any stretch - was elated when they got their franchise back, just as I will be when Quebec city gets a franchise again. That having been said, Mark Chipman is worth about $500 million according to Forbes and would be among the bottom few in the NHL in terms of net worth, so I disagree that he is "one of the richest owners in the league" Just as a comparisson, All of the top 15 or so owners in the NHL are billionares, and the Habs and Leafs are owned by corporations that have deep, deep pockets. - winsix
The co-owner of the Winnipeg Jets remains the richest person in Canada.
That's according to Forbes, which released its annual listing of the world's billionaires. David Thomson and his family were listed by the publication as having a net worth of $23.8 billion, good enough for 25th in the world but down slightly from last year, when he was pegged as being worth $25.5 billion.
Thomson, a partner in True North Sports and Entertainment with Winnipegger Mark Chipman, and his family hold a 58% stake of Thomson Reuters, as well as parts of Bell Canada and the Globe and Mail.
Chipman has publically said many time the Jets will be a cap team this year and for years to come, spending money when the time is right will not be an issue. Yes, JVR ( a pending UFA ) is not something they would likely consider but not because they will not spend the money.

Jvr, zietsev, gauthier and kapanen for trouba and Lowry
Jets have a hard time getting players to sign long term who don't already play for them. So trade out the aditude for a solid player under contract. |

That is impressive net worth. The Jets are certainly not poor.
Rogers and Bell have about 67B between them.

Should be no problem paying Karlsson, Stone and Turris and Hoffman. That 22 million for Phaneuf, Ryan, MacArthur, Smith won't be an issue at all |

Problem for the Jets is salary. Reality is they are 21st in revenue in the league. They are not a cap team and never will be. Byfuglien will make $7.6 Million for four more years (and for me well worth it) But, the Jets are not going to have Byfuglen, Myers (who is overpaid at $5.5 million) and Trouba - who will be looking for $6 million plus long term and have money left to hope to lock up Laine. Jets have to trade either Myers (who is not worth much right now) or Trouba. And they will have to trade for picks and prospects, because that is what they can afford and certainly not a rental whose salary will be going up soon. - winsix
Myers' cap hit is $5.5 million, but in terms of actual salary, he's going to make $3.5 milly this year and $3.0 milly next year.
Myers isn't a problem.
At least off the ice, anyways... |

I disagree with this, they just drafted a top two RHD in Liljegren - who is probably a year away from being in the NHL. They have currently Gardiner,Rielly and Zaitsev as their top three - not great but ok to compliment a very solid offense. Penguins just finished winning two cups with mediocre (at best) defense, this year they did it without their top two (Schultz and Letang both injured for the playoffs) Keep building through the draft, Dermott probably ok to go this year and add one competent RHD that is capable of clearing the front of the net and passing the puck out of the defensive zone.
And I totally agree that trading Nylander or Marner are non-starters. - winsix
?I love your optimism but Lil'dman drafted this year is about 5 years away from playing in the top 4 on the NHL team in a really significant way, and 2 years away from even joining the NHL club. |

Eklund, do you ever get tired of the shameless click bait. If, if if the Jets are trying to move Trouba they will want at least a top 4 D-man in return. They ARE not in the market for a washed up top 6 forward. I can't believe I actually contribute to this click-baiting |

The D's worth trading for were already traded.
Who is left that would be legitimate top 6 D? |
