I think the only time it might be legit to be critical of the Rangers in this Jagr thing is if Jagr came out and said "I want to be a Ranger again and I'd play for a million" and the Rangers didn't do it

plenty of players have said over the years "I wanna be a Ranger" and they said it very publically

As long as he accepts that he isn't playing every night, and when he does it would be on the 3rd or maybe 4th line, you have to do it. Has his aging ego come to earth and realized he's not 28 anymore? If the Rangers are looking for insurance and Jagr takes a mill, there's your winger that can slide up to the top lines if someone goes down.

He has already said he realizes he is no longer a first liner, "Maybe it would be even better for me if I played on a second or third line because I would play against worse players and worse defensemen." I know it's a long shot and realize the view of most of you, but think it would at least be worthwhile to explore the possibility of bringing him back to NY. If it's cost prohibitive or doesn't make sense, fine, but consider the option.

I am actually a little surprised at how much you are pro-signing Jagr

Why? As mentioned, I want to lengthen the lineup. Jagr makes some sense on a one-year deal, especially for use on the power play. That of course depends on how cheap he is. I realize he regressed the second half of last year, but if his minutes and usage is controlled, I still think he can be effective. My blog on signing Kerfoot will be up late today or tomorrow, but you have also said the team is at 21 players and needs to be at 23. Maybe they invite a few - Daniel Winnik for one - on a PTO to try and add some depth. But Matt Puempel has a ton to prove and with Jesper Fast probably out the first month, why not add a veteran - ok, a very old - winger with the pedigree and history of a scorer?

I read Jagr's comments. My concern is that once he gets going, will he really be OK with a diminished roll? I think he will, knowing he can slot in on a first line if needed.

Anything is possible, but to me, it's worth the risk due to the possible reward. Maybe it backfires and it might be a silly idea, but staying with my view on this.

Really don't want you guys to sign Jagr, I'd hate to have to root against him in his waning years.

To me, signing Jagr signifies that this team doesn't have a plan. And I believe that they actually have a plan.

Late to the party here but I'm not down with a Jagr retirement tour here, which is what it would be. I think he 100% knows this will be his last go around & wants to do it in a marquee city & he did love it here in his 3 + years as a Ranger. I just don't see it fitting with the current mold of the team & we would get (not that I care) inundated with 'same old Rangers" sh!t from all sides if we signed him to any contract.

I Get what the big plan is, get younger and faster, but I'm still trying to figure out where we're getting our depth from this year. Andersson will get his 9 games, but what if he doesn't work out? Desharnais is our 3/4c. I think it's a given Miller will be moved to center until Andersson is ready but what do we do if Zib or Hayes get hurt? I don't get the Desharnais signing and won't feel real comfortable if he's our 3c going into the season

This is a guy who told Mario Lemieux "this is my power play now", when Lemieux returned to the Pens after his bout with cancer.

This is also a guy who took full advantage of whatever that was they were playing after the lockout, cause that sure wasn't hockey. It's a shame he ecplised Graves single season goal scoring record.

Not no, but hell no!

A shame the second leading scorer in NHL history eclipsed Graves' goal record? I'm sorry but that's ridiculous. Graves was an amazing Ranger and his actions outside of hockey are pretty great too, but to even compare the two doesn't make a bit of sense. Graves can't hold a candle to Jagr in terms of pure skill level. They're not even in the same conversation in that respect. Not even close.

I hated Jagr as an opponent but his time with the Rangers changed my opinion. I am grateful that he had productive years here and helped the team recover from the embarrassing dark years.

If he's smart..he will go to Europe and play less physical hockey, and will get picked up at deadline for last playoff run
