From Jim Cerny column today. One aspect he discussed was where Alex Kerfoot and Will Butcher might sign. On Kerfoot, he wrote: "Keep an eye on the Rangers. They signed Jimmy Vesey after August 15 a year ago, and did likewise with Kevin Hayes in the summer of 2014, so there is a track record of the Blueshirts heavily pursuing top college free agents. They also need a third-line center, a spot where Kerfoot -- a college teammate of Vesey's -- would fit."

This would be such a good acquisition if it happened.

I wonder if the fact that both Hayes and Vesey had significant roles after getting signed could be part of a deciding factor. Sign with the Rangers you might see decent NHL minutes.

the spot is there right for him to win
obviously the Rangers wont be in on Butcher because there is no room on the blueline, but 3/4th center is there for the Rangers, Vesey is here, his good buddy.
I think we have excellent shot
and if we don't get him, then they look at other options

When Hayes got signed he was looking at being the 4th line center to start. Circumstances had him as the 3rd line center. Hopefully whatever tactic they used with Hayes and Vesey they use with Kerfoot.
I don't know what other teams are after him, but he might have the best chance of landing a spot in the NHL this year with the Rangers.
