He's easily a top pair D....and exactly what you want if you have a lefty who likes to jump up and can score.

Under contract for two more years, $4.8 mill per season. |

Then my counter.
Draisaitl, Puljujarvi, Fayne for Faulk, Aho, 1st
I probably wouldn't go for it, but I'm curious if you would. |

Not a chance.
Aho is going to be real special. He's got a fire in him. |

Indeed he does. The few Carolina games I watched last year made that very apparent. Should be a special player, that's why I wanted him. |

What makes you rate that pair Above average? That'd make them at least a top 12 1st pairing in the league. |

He reminds me a lot of Saku Koivu. Possible Captain material. Bulked up over the summer a bit too.
I like Pulju, but he's a different sort of player. Big, talented guy but he doesn't play with a lot of passion. Needs to go harder to the dirty areas. It should come, though.

Depends on your definition of elite. There are now 31 teams in the NHL. If you're rating against the league being 15 or 16th would be average. I agree they are probably in the top 12 or so based on last season. But they aren't a top 5 or 6 which is what I would reserve calling elite. |
|
|
|
There are now 62 top pair defenders in the league. If he is among those 62 then yes, he is a top pairing defenseman. Is that too simple? Probably, but i don't think anyone could name 62 guys that are better than him. - dr_soiledpants

He's an elite 3/4 and not too out of place on a 1/2. On a good team he's 2nd paring though. - halo63
We were a top ten team and he was top pairing |
|
|
|
He's a top pair on at least 10-15 of the teams in the league, including NJ and Edmonton. - smellmyfinger

Yes he is a top pairing defenseman.
Yes he is a top pairing defenseman on a team robbed of going to a conference final.
That questions has an absolutely obvious answer based off his performance last year.
For me Larsson is Edmonton's up and coming version of Marc Edouard Vlassic. Elite shutdown defender. Certainly under rated by many.
His play last year was as a rock solid #2 on damn near any team on the NHL. His chemistry with Klefbom made them a true solid top pairing.
Still young and constantly improving. Hope his offense comes around so that he is considered a true #1 eventually. Certainly isn't outside the realm of possibility.
At his worst over the last couple seasons he is a #2/3 guy on most teams. |

Larsson came from a horrible team that could not score & played the usual NJ boring style of defence. 1 yr to fit in & next year he will be more prominent if thats what TM wants from him. Here in Van Tanev is a similar D & is top pairing shutdown & very valuable. Its who is on the left side that makes it click. Klefblom is solid but Nurse has to take it to the next level. |

Hefty price for both sides but if can manage losing a stud like LD its a win win prolly. Giving to get needs on D always was & is pricey as Oiler fans know.
Idk if any other team could match that offer either. |

Too much risk involved. Giving up a 30+ goal scorer, a top-end D prospect AND a 1st is just too much.
I'd rather just stick with the plan than cause a shakeup that significant. |

Risk?
A proven stud C.
PJ a 1st pick with cost control. Big strong & young.
Skinner 1 hit away from lala land again.
Two sides to the coin bro but give nothing get nothing. |
