One of the first jobs I ever had - I must have been 15 or 16 - was painting for a real estate management company.

We got driven up to Barrie to stain a restaurant (Ruby Begonia's on Dunlop, for any of our Barrie readers here).

So I'm up on an extension ladder - probably 30 feet up. You'd stain everywhere, except the two little spots where the ladder would hit the wall.

So then you would "bounce" the ladder - sorta hop it off the wall and jerk it over so that it would land 3-4 inches further along, so you could hit those two spots with stain.

I think about that now, and wonder how I didn't die.

And to top it off, I remember one day they didn't coordinate the rides home, so I rode home (on the 400) in the back of a pickup truck. Not in the cab. In the open truck bed.

...but back then the 400 was just a dirt road right?

I don't even care about camp because there isn't the same hype as there was with Matthews, Nylander and Marner coming in...I just want regular season. Especially after having a fun team to watch for the first time in forever. And I think with some swagger behind them now the Leafs will hit the ground running and be one of the better teams from the getgo. I'm thinking of freezing myself until October and then being thawed out for the season opener.

I like Doughty (two years of control), top three d-man in the NHL for sure - don't want to give up Nylander - (about 7 years of control) even for a stud like Doughty and Kings would want lots more - so not going to happen. Besides that Doughty will be getting a huge payday in 2 years - maybe league max. Leafs are in a particularly good situation, why move building blocks like Nylander or Marner for an older more expensive, much more likely to break down d-man? As for Tavares - great player, sees the playing surface really well. He will get 10 to 12 million for 7 years next year - would I want him on the Leafs? Hell yes - but the salary cap is in the way. Wait for Liljegren to become the RHD stud he is expected to be. In the meantime, here's a shot of Marner at my favourite winter hangout.

I'm assuming that short vid of Marner was posted in here today..

He's possibly the most skilled player in the league.. I'm sure McDavid will always hold that title, but idk if he can do what Mitch can..

Agree - an exceptional athlete, will be much much better this year if he stays healthy. Marner's training regimen is off the charts.
Don't think Nylander is far off Marner's skill level so, I wouldn't trade an asset like that who you can control for 7 more years.

Idk.. seriously.. Connor is unreal, but Marner is just disgusting with the puck and at creating space.
