So when he took over 400 shots the previous three years he averaged 18.6g a year. He scored 20 last year. The past four years he averaged 19g, so yeah, he is who he is.

.

In my opinion last year is not who Voracek is. He had a bad year. He's capable of a lot more.

that timeline isnt realistic...offseason deal would be a better return anyway
- YuenglingJagr

Not sure I agree about the return.

I just think what the odds are is subjective. I think if they can come to a fair deal the odds are better of becoming a top team with Simmonds than without. That opinion for the record is also subjective.
- MJL

I worry more about Giroux recovering then i do Simmonds keeping up his goal scoring. I mean Shane Doan was relatively still a solid goal scorer until his last year because he could get to the net. The way Simmonds scores he could still produce in his 30's.

Not really. if you move him at this TDL the acquiring team has him for the playoff run AND next year before having to commit big money and term.

An off season trade means you get him one year and then your paying him. His contract makes him very valuable for what he can bring.

- J35Bacher

Offseason deal leaves more options open to return and each teams salary cap picture. More pieces can move in the offseason.

List of blockbuster trades at the deadline of players with term is probably hidden somewhere on that list of guys signed to valuable big deals in their late 30s

they usually do...but Simmonds is unique in that his cap hit is low for what he brings. You usually do get someone like him, in season, at less then a 4 million cap hit.

Not only do the stats indicate that, so does the eye test.

The market for a player like Simmonds would expand in the off season versus at the trade deadline making a higher return more likely. Not impossible however to get a very good deal for a player like Simmonds in season.

At the deadline you're talking a pro-rated cap hit so the difference between him making 4 million and 6 million is even less. Also the teams you are usually trading him to are contenders who will be in the back half of the draft. Not someone like the Coyotes for the 7th overall pick

Why not. He's also a right handed shot.
- J35Bacher

I didn't realize being right handed was the only qualification for running a PP from the left wall.

Maybe Giroux having the most PP points in the league this decade while performing that role might come into it.

Correct.

But i don't always need picks. Dealing with contenders they are more willing to move a top prospect to go for a cup.

I mean would the 7th overall from AZ be more valuable then say Jesse Puljujarvi from EDM?

I am not saying your idea isn't correct, I am just saying it rarely happens.

Everyone wants Forsberg for Erat, but teams aren't doing it as much since ELCs are so valuable

If the Flyers can win the Stanley Cup with Giroux as an 8M a year 3rd line center and PP specialist, I'm all in!
- MJL

How do you feel about Simmonds probably getting $6.5-7m to be the 3RW and PP specialist?

I get you.

Right now i think a Forsberg for Erat type of trade could be more valuable for the Flyers. If they did move simmonds, hypothetically, at the deadline this year i think getting back a young prospect either ready for or very close to being an NHL contributor is more helpful then another pick.

Also with the Flyers keeping picks more often then in the past i think getting players could be more useful then late round 1st.

yes, you're really getting the hang of this

If we're going to follow the same "process" that the Sixers employed, then yes, that is what we will do.

since it is the offseason...

not really...process was centered around trading non-stars for more than what they were truly worth. the ultimate goal was getting a player like provorov (or embiid) not trading him once it came time to pay him
