what I saw on this blog right after we drafted Lias Andersson is "OMG, we just used the 7th overall pick on Jesper Fast"

don't even deny it

- jimbro83

Not true.

the theory that any draft pick could be a bust or could be great because of draft picks a team made years ago is so ridiculous it isn't even funny

there isn't one person in the organization that was around when Jamie Lundmark was picked, but that's a rationale from Mr. draft expert here that Andersson could go sour.

I know. I'll stand by that too. And when I'm wrong, I'll be here to admit my fault. Like an adult.

let me ask you a question, if you had the opportunity to have a sit down with Jeff Gorton, pick his brain a little, would you ask the following question...

"Hey Jeff, are you at all worried that the Lias Andersson pick won't pan out because 18 years ago the Rangers picked Jamie Lundmark and he failed?"

Damn. Well with such a great analysis, Rangers better start looking for another center.

I think there should be a moratorium on the "was Andersson a bad draft pick" for a couple years. No way to properly evaluate it till the other 9 players picked all have chances to play, and we see where everyone sits.

Just as long as the standard isn't "someone, anyone, who was drafted after him is a better player". That's going to be true almost every year.

Yeah, it has to be limited to players a couple spots ahead and a couple behind him. Like Vilardi who seemed to be the consensus for a lot of people on this board.

I get arguing about it when it happens, but might as well let it go and see where the chips fall. Whats done is done.

I personally think Andersson is going to be good. Watching him play some of these summer games, the kid is not built like a gangly 18 year old. He has an NHL frame. He is a smart player away from the puck, and has a knack for finding open space and going to the net. Also busts his butt all over the ice.

I think the Rangers should have drafted Mark McNeill over JT Miller, don't you?

The whole Manny Malhotra thing is different when you look at how much of a young mans game the NHL is now. the guys that dominate at these World Junior events usually can hold their own, esp a guy like Andersson whos been playing against men
