there isn't anyone around who could possibly listen to more different types of music than me

especially lately I just listen to everything, when I am not working and typing on hockeybuzz I literally never put my guitar down and I try to write my own stuff. Feel like I am influenced by every single thing I hear lately

You might give me a run for my money then. Years ago I was playing in a death metal band while listening to folk and classical music, backing up my folkie friend. Talk about diametrically opposed!
My nephew came down last weekend to tour the Martin facility. That was pretty cool, I got to play a $7,500 guitar!
I bought strings for my nylon, and a set of phosphor bronze for my acoustic bass, which I had him re-string for me. We sat around the fire for a few hours jamming. Haven't really played in a few years, but that re-kindled the spark. Guess I really do miss it.

there's literally a lesson for everything song you can think of on YouTube these days

and then if I have trouble getting a song right, I've been ripping off the chord progressions and then just doing my own thing with them

That's awesome! The writing and the openmindedness.
Just curious, since you are open to different genres. Are you familiar with Blue Rodeo? They are a national treasure up here, but never caught on in the States. They are hard to categorize with all their different influences, but basically a combination of rock, country, blues, jazz (especially early). Two of my all-time favourite songwriters and the original keyboard player (1st four albums) was a freak.

Reminds me when Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon told all those Hillbilly Mother(frank)ers to shut the (frank) up, I'm trying to play a (frank)ing song up here. Couldn't find the audio, but it was damned funny.

If I'm not mistaken, the Sadies got their start by touring with and opening for Blue Rodeo. A number of Canadian bands have, as they have put out 15 studio albums.

They used to play all over Southern Ontario for cheap or even free. I've seen them about 16 times, but only once in the last 15 years.

there's always something better about flipping through the channels and finding a great movie than actually getting the DVD out and putting it on

and I have no idea why

I've suggested him a few times this summer, think he'd be a good fit/depth signing. Plays a gritty game that were lacking on the 4th line.
