When Yzerman traded Drouin for Sergechev he was tight against the cap and still had multiple important players to resign. Drouin was the odd man out due to his pending contract and this lessened Yzerman's bargaining position considerably.

Bergevin is nowhere near the cap and is not in the same position. In fact his position would require a return of a top center or NHL proven left side defenseman that is assured to play a big role this coming season not a prospect that has yet to play a game in the NHL. Of course that would require Galchenyuk +++.

Why would a player with second line winger potential get you a top center?

Yeah, trading an unproven young commodity for a 6 time 30 goal scorer makes no sense. SMDH. Maybe for MONTREAL it makes no sense. It certainly does for the Flyers, who lack goal scoring so badly.

Please explain how the Flyers need another player with a narrow window for a cup victory? Pacioretty does not fix any of the woes the Flyers have nor does it make sense for Montreal. The Flyers currently have No starting goaltender. A d core that is lead by oft suspended Gudas and AMac, a 3rd year offensive Dman and a Dman in his sophmore season.

Flyers currently do not have a full Defence and YOU think it makes sense to trade away a prospect likely to make the team this season for a guy that does nothing to make this team even remotely close to a contender. It is dumb moves like this that has kept the Flyers from becoming a contender because they are always trading away their future for now. Holmgrem spent his years doing the exact smae thing. Trying to plug a hole left by Pronger. Guess what, that plan failed miserably as would this.

Montreal just traded their top prospect for drouin as well. How does it now make sense to trade their best scorer for a D Prospect? The Habs already lost Radulov.
