In my opinion there are a number of legitimate reasons to consider a trade of Simmonds. - MJL
1. Edmonton offers you Connor McDavid in a trade.
2. Edmonton offers you Connor McDavid in some other way. |

Wayne Simmonds is not getting traded/signed/knighted/killed by a dragon until next summer, at the very earliest - YuenglingJagr

It doesn't matter what you are selling. Unless you are liquidating stale inventory to buy things you can turn for a profit, the company takes a hit.
That being said, I sold car in three different states for several different companies and brands. I did internet sales. Little to no actual profits on these deals and many were losers. It fed the service and parts departments and there were also volume deals from the MFGs on certain models that were pushing. Hundreds of dollars per car. If a couple deals pushed them over 50 cars and $500 per car from MFG then the last few of the month could be really cheap deals.
BTW, car deals, ALWAYS contact via internet and shop several dealers. Shop at the end of the month. Go in about 8 pm on the last day of the month. If you show you are ready to buy, they will give you a GREAT deal. Always trying to get those last few at the end of the month

you can sell stuff at a loss all the time if it leads to future sales
or if you just want marketshare |

Still taking a hit short term betting that you can recoup with future sales or increased market. If that doesn't pan out oops, now go to plan B.
That is just a marketing strategy. It basically is just a form of advertising. Spending money to attract future business.
All stores do it. Ads on loss leaders placed in the back of the store so you pass all the other merchandise on your way in and out. They make money on the rest. |

Many - MJL
Please list these many players... remember I said worth it for the 5/6 years. Not a couple. These contracts often turn out to be buyouts or burdens.
EDIT: I was pretty specific looking back, power forward wingers. Perhaps that's a tad unfair in filtering out players you had in mind. |

I've been on board with what Hextall has done. I understand that we're not a contender at the moment and that we're building towards it.
However, should Hextall trade Simmonds, I'm probably gonna be done with him. I'm not a Hinkie fan, where you just keep trading veterans for picks/prospects, then once the picks/prospects become veterans, shipping them out for picks/prospects.
By doing so, you are basically rebuilding for eternity and have no deadline to actually start building a team. I'm not cool with a 10+ year rebuild.
Unless there is a ridiculous trade or he demands an unreasonable deal, I see no reason whatsoever to trade arguably the premier power forward in the league. - jmatchett383
if Simmonds is traded I would think it would be about their ability to re-sign him at a term they can live with. I love Simmonds but I can honestly say if a 31 YO Simmonds is looking for 7 years, I would probably fall in the trade Simmonds camp. |

I'm not going to get into that. I anticipated this would be your next reply. The history of the NHL is long. Do I honestly have to prove that there are many examples of players that signed long term deals later in their careers that turned out to be good deals.?There are certainly some risks involved. That doesn't mean that you automatically decline re-signing a player in that situation. |

You anticipated correctly lol but Fair enough, I should have also specified in today's NHL / salary cap era. Id like to resign Wayne, but let's be honest, he doesn't deserve any kind of team discount with how he's performed, and at the time of his free agency status it could be his last opportunity to cash in big for the first time in his career. |

As much as I love Simmer, This is exactly where I am at. No G, Jake or even Oshie deal for 31 yo Simmonds.
It will be term more than cap hit that torpedoes this. |
