For me, just my opinion, term length is more important then cap hit. - J35Bacher
I think pretty much everyone would agree, no? They'll have plenty of cap space, but will continuously have young players needing raises on an annual basis |

The Pens have Crosby, Malkin, LeTang and Kessell. That's over $30mil for four players. How do they do it? Drafting and developing players. Paying the right players.
- mickel25
Patrick, Konecny, Lindblom, Provorov, Ghost, Sanheim, and Hart/Sandstrom, with veterans Coots, Gudas, Giroux (for a few seasons) and Voracek.
You don't think that's going to be a female dog to keep together when all those guys are producing to the tune of a Schenn bridge deal/long term extension money? On top of Gudas, who will get UFA defensman money, Giroux at 8+, Voracek at 8+?
The Flyers are going to have a hell of a time keeping these prospects around. Hextall has to be smart, which he will. |

Oshie has an 8 year deal though.
Radulov and Erickson have shorter deals
There isn't much precedent for a player of Simmond's skill/production signing a high AAV short term deal - YuenglingJagr
I see Backes and Ladd deals similar to what Simmonds could get open market. That's just my thinking.

That's kinda my point. He will have to make tough decisions. It will be a welcomed problem to have to decide between really talented players that are home grown. You can't keep everyone and not all of the prospects will be good/great. Just keep the right ones. |

Yeah, that's true. But hey, he discounted us last time
I think 3 years is the magic number for him from a Flyers' standpoint. What's that push? 7? 7.5? Oshie carries a 5.75 mil hit I think - Giroux_Is_God
keep trying its very amusing. he will get 35 million plus on his next deal and you want him to take 21 |

It'll take some finagling.
Especially when Giroux and Voracek as for Schenn back, like Toews and Kane did with Saad |

The Provorov deal will be intriguing. I think they go long term right away and see if they can keep cap down a little. no bridge deal.

I think the Flyers should sign Simmonds to a Bobby Bonilla type deal at 35 years, 1.25 mil per |

I have thought more and came to my own conclusion on Provorov deals. I agree, and in my everlasting fight against bridge deals, think they should offer back to back 8 year deals. |

Agreed. I'll be Sanheim has a good chance to sign that type of deal too if he performs well in his first NHL season |

Provorov getting locked up long-term would be priority #1 for me.
I still say I'd rather move Giroux/Voracek before Simmonds, keeping in mind that the return for those 2 would be less than it would for Simmonds. |

Even NAK will be a 25 goal, 50 point scorer. Come on, try these sunglasses on!
I see your point, not every blue chipper is going to be a superstar. But nowadays you don't need to be a superstar to take a 4-5 mil chunk out of the cap |

Oshie is an example of a desperate team hitching the wagon to the wrong player in my opinion. He is WAY overpaid.
I think Simmonds at 4 year $6.5 or 5 years $5.5mil is about right. |

There will be tough decisions, no doubt. I just envision our team 4 years from now, going, "Man, if only we had a Wayne Simmonds type of player," and having to spend top prospects/picks to acquire Wayne Simmonds lite at 75% of Simmer's cap hit because everyone was too much of a wussy and worried that he may not be an 80-goal scorer until he's in a retirement home. |

I don't think that's fair to insinuate that people want to trade Simmonds because they believe that all prospects will pan out.
I think the general consensus stems around the fact that a long-term (five to seven year) contract given to an 30+ veteran might come back to backfire on us three years after signing. Simmonds will get a long contract on his next deal, there is no doubt about it. There's a lot of risk there.
All that said, I still don't want to think about moving him until next season. But that's me personally.

If you aren't thinking numbers close to the Lucic contract then you aren't thinking clearly.
