Players don't get better with experience?
And guys do work on their "skills" all the time
Not saying he's gonna turn into Ovechkin...
but I don't see any reason he can't continue to grow & get better
Especially if he's moved back to the position he's played his whole life
If he just stays at 45-50pts for another 2 years...
then that'll worry me

But calling it after only 2 years...
that's just way too quick to make an estimate about the guy's entire career
At least for me it is

- jdfitz77

I think he will get better. Marginally.

If he's at center, that's a totally different scenario, but as a 3C, I don't see much more than what he does now.

Best 2 way player of the last generation (Datsyuk) blows him away

Bergeron: good offensive numbers + great defensively = very good

Datsyuk: great offense + great defense = great

One is HOF, one is very good

-A quadruple gold club
- Stanley Cup champion
- -4 Selkes
-2 2nd places for selkes
-2 other top five finishes
7 years in a row for the selke

Will have over 900 pts when he is done

So ?

Lol I don't think this conversation is going to end in either one if us changing our minds. I don't think a player who has scored between 39 and 73 points a year (not including lockout) and with only 2 seasons at 70 or above is worthy of HOF status no matter how good he is defensively

Edit: I also don't see him scoring 230 more points in his career. He's 32 and just came off 53 points. He would have to maintain that over the next 5 years

Yeah, he's a great defensive player.
But when he finishes top 5 for Hart more than once we'll talk.

Jeremy Roenick has 1,200 points and he probably won't get in.

He shouldn't have a ton of trouble doing that. Unless last year wasn't an aberration.

Why not?
Playing against lesser competition
In a position where he should be able to have more assists
And if he's moved to 3C,
the plan is giving that line a good amount of icetime
And he'll still be on the PP

I think at 3C his stats would be very likely to go up

Players with his mileage start to dip there and he hasn't touched 70 in 10 years. He'll settle into 45-55 for the next few and dip more dramatically in years 4 and 5 imo

.86 PPG, between 54-76 points, 3 cups, much better stats. He's in

Few players in NHL history have rivalled Bergeron’s ability to drive possession, actually. There’s a case to be made he’s the greatest defensive forward ever. Bergeron’s three Selkes tie him with Datsyuk, Guy Carbonneau and Jere Lehtinen for second-most all-time. Carbonneau won his third Selke at 32, Datsyuk at 31 and Lehtinen at 29. Bergeron won his third at 29, and he’s 31 now, fresh off a second-place finish in the 2016 vote. When asked if he knew who holds the Selke record, Bergeron nodded. He has Bob Gainey, the man with four Selkes, on the mind. Gainey is widely regarded as the gold standard for defensive forwards, but how would he compare to Bergeron if we applied modern statistics? There was no Corsi or Fenwick in Gainey’s era, which spanned from 1973-74 to 1988-89. The best we can do is evaluate him using hockey-reference.com’s defensive point shares. The formula is downright headache-inducing to laypeople like us, so here’s a simplified version: it factors in a player’s position, the league goals-per-game rate of his era and his plus-minus cross-referenced with a team’s goals for and against to create an approximation of defensive impact. “Point shares” refer to how many points in the standings the player was responsible for. Gainey gained 18.1 over 16 seasons for an average of 1.13. Bergeron has gained 21.2 in 12 seasons for an average of 1.77.
Bergeron thus measures up quite nicely to Gainey, who is, of course, in the Hall of Fame. Bergeron only has the one Stanley Cup to Gainey’s five, but Gainey played on one of the greatest dynasties in sports history with the late ’70s Canadiens. Bergeron has the Olympic resume and is a better offensive player than Gainey ever was. His body of work is starting to look Hall-worthy, and he has plenty of good years left. Hockey researcher and history Iain Fyffe has developed ‘The Inductinator,’ a system that predicts Hall of Fame berths, and he believes Bergeron must catch Gainey in Selkes to have a shot.

That's a bs argument
How many teams played 3 scoring lines & have someone with Sam's talent in that slot?

How is that a BS argument?

Are you trying to say Reinhart would be the best 3C in hockey? How many teams had 2 50 point centers? 15? Maybe?

I fully admit to being a semi-troll, hence why I chose one of the greatest lines ever uttered by the legendary Buffalo Hard Hat as my user name.

But holy hell, over the past few years there have been some very childish middle-aged men on here.

And Der Kaiser, if you're reading this, you regressed from a humorous curmudgeon into a straight sot with nothing to add to any conversation and constant attacks on people who you act no different from.

Dude posts wrestling gifs and he hasn't shut up about it in months but a Hitler gif of him screaming Nahtzee in the style of Yahtzee is wonderful to him and even though I made a big stink of it, I'm not on here every day pissing an moaning about it or his habitual abuse, telling people to kill themselves or to die.

Thank god Maximum Signal hasn't been here this summer, I really might have punched myself in the face until I died if I had to read his childish ramblings, name dropping and bragging.

Most of us can twat out, but we keep it clean and fun, for the most part and sometimes we argue too much about stupid stuff (and are polarized on politics big time) but that's fine, no one's ever going to agree on anything past loving the Sabres. But some people come here just to be miserable and it is just plain sad.

By my count 44 centers had 50 points

NHL.com has Gagne, Nylander, Eberle, and Marchessault as centers, but they play wing

Minnesota is the only team I saw with 3 legit centers with 50 points, but I'm not even sure if Coyle played center all year

I didn't even read what you guys were arguing about I just caught that bit. But yeah it's tough to get 3 lines rolling like that, there's only so much PP time to go around too.

Though I think the Sabres could do it seeing as they'd all play on a lethal PP. And if Kane is on the 3rd line again potting 25ish goals that would in theory be enough.

But that's a pretty unique circumstance where they'd all play on the same PP line.

That's the other thing.

Can't roll 3 centers on one PP unit. So one of O'Reilly or Sam are getting the boot.

I don't think so, they'd just play it like they did last year with Jack on the point, ROR at center and Sam on the wing.

Why would they change anything from the PP last year? With Jack it was over 26%. Which is crazy.

Because then by default you are putting out your 4th line after every PP.

Unless you want to double shift one of them.

Homie, good call on Boldin. Took awhile, but the ship finally came in. Also, you were the first to hype Mahomes out of anyone I heard and he wound up being the 2nd QB taken. Hopefully he gets some PT this year (or not) and my Bills Playoffs/KC top 5 pick exacta battleship docks
