Seriously? MTL just lost Radulov and the only other player to score 20+ goals was Paul Byron which could have been an anomaly. His 22 goals was a far distance from Pac's 35.

They move Pac, scoring is going to be a MAJOR issue.

Id rather keep Sanheim. If the Flyers were in the hunt for a cup, I'd be ok with Patches but right now he is a waste of a good prospect. Build the D and then focus on everything else. Forwards are much easier to replace than Dmen. Goalies are important to but the 2010 Flyers and Hawks proved you could get to the finals with mediocre to AHL goaltending as long as you have a strong D

the Flyers have 4 forwards who should be starting on an NHL roster.

Who the (frank) is sanhiem? is that the next poliout? What is this trade and who are the pens fans masquerading as flyers fans?

65pt goal scorer on a super bargain 4.5M cap hit? no thanks, better to suck til McCrosby-David 2.0 comes along.

- eNDSo

Who is Sanheim? Only one of our best project D prospects. People think Ghost is goo, Sanheim is supposed to be better. Granted that is no guarantee but what the hell does a 4.5 mill 65 pt scorer do for a team that is rebuilding?

Patches does not change the fact that Giroux might be declining, that the Flyers lack secondary and 3rd line scoring, that the D is not ready and that they have questionable goaltending at best this season. Patches is a good player but it is a piss poor trade that makes zero sense for either side. Why did MTL bother trading Sergachev for Drouin if they are just going to trade Patches for another yound Dman?

Patches 65 pts and 35 goals is nothing to sneeze at. But he's not winning us a cup in these next 2 years. He is a ufa in 2 years. It would be a ridiculously stupid trade for the flyers and probably for both teams

Come on Ek this crap is why no one takes you seriously. This makes little sense for either team even if the value seems relatively balanced.

No, he wouldn't. Among other reasons, by the time the Flyers are ready to contend again, Pacioretty will be a UFA . Provorov 's next contract (which will be at the same time) is going to be an expensive one on the cap. Simmonds, if re-signed rather than traded, will be on an expensive deal right in line with Pacioretty's.

Nothing about this rumor fits in with Hextall has been adamant about doing. I have been there in person when Hextall has been very direct --- on quite a few occasions, including this year- - about the types of trades he will not make. He has never deviated from that plan. He has said that philosophy might change ONLY when he feels they are one player away from making a win-now move justifiable. The Flyers aren't at that point yet.

Also, on the reverse.side, it's not the right deal for the Habs at present.

- bmeltzer

This deal makes sense if Hextall has soured on Sanheim and plans to flip MaxPatch (either at the TDL or sooner), and Montreal has decided to go with a mini-rebuild centered around youngsters Drouin, Galchenyuk, and Danault. In other words, this deal doesn't make any sense.

Just curious, Bill, what did you think of Jersey picking up Johansson? Same position, similar scorer, and on the same 2 year, $4.5 mil per deal. My guess is that it was essentially a free asset that Shero will flip at some point, probably for a dman. Of course, they are so far under the cap that they could re-sign him (or extend him sooner) if he wants to play in Jersey beyond two years if they keep him that long.

Thanks for the laugh.

Not a chance Hextall trades one of the top defensive prospects in the system for Pax.

They are not contending next year, so this would just be a waste.

Also, Hextall has been very hesitant to trade draft picks.

No chance this happens

Ron Hextall will not even consider trades of this nature (at least not until such a time when he feels the team is one player away from being a prime Cup contender). He is all about adding prospects and picks, not subtracting them in trades for players in their late 20s.

Everything he has done as Flyers GM has been consistent with this oft-stated strategy.
It isn't about to change.

The Flyers are high on Oskar Lindblom and there are power forward types they like (such as Wade Allison) in the pipeline projected to be ready in the next few seasons.

A Sanheim for Pacioretty deal isn't happening, nor has it likely even been discussed in earnest. It's also not the right fit for the Habs to be enoigh to move Pacioretty right now.

- bmeltzer

Got that right. Not losing a future top pairing guy, and a 3rd, for a 28 year old with 2 years left on a deal.

Scoring was an issue with Pac. Mtl is going to hurt this year and with regards to the Flyers the biggest issue is the area they NEVER address. Goaltending??? Elliot isn't the answer either

Elliot isn't expected to be the answer. They are building from within and no one in the organization expects them to contend for a Cup before 19-20 at the earliest. They have 2 of the top goal prospects in the world in Carter Hart and Felix Sandstrom. Elliot and Neuvirth are just band aids to get through the next 2 years. Under Hextall, the organizational philosophy of win at all costs was changed to patiently building from within. It's why there is no chance that a Sanheim for Pacioretty deal gets made in 2017. Hextall won't make that type of deal unless he feels that he is one or two players from a Cup.

Please calm down sir. Sanheim is a good prospect, nothing more. If Montreal makes that offer to Philly, Hextall says yes right way, rebuilding or not.
- Not_Yan

Right.

Hextall says, "Yes, I am going to pass on that."

No chance this happens. No offense to the Hab's player, but this just doesn't fit the current Flyers model.

Deal makes no sense if a GM makes the deal with the intent to flip him he is a bad GM. What logical sense does it make to trade your top D prospect for a player you are going to trade? No one is going to give you more value for him than you received. People thought Bishop was acquired by LA to be flipped and I said that was stupid and woudnt happen. It didnt and LA didnt even make the playoffs. Not to mention that there is no guarantee he could trade him either. The scenario makes 0 sense.

If the Flyers were to trade anybody they would trade a D prospect for a top forward prospect or deal away some older players like Giroux who will turn 30 soon.
