Sign me up for trading hornqvist and signing jagr. Grabs an asset, cuts salary, and I believe Jagr is still the better overall player. Two things we need grabbing a pick for hornqvist and cutting a little salary.
- sditulli

You're joking, right?

Egad, I just noticed that it was the last point in the blog. Yikes! Come on, Ryan. Regular season stats don't matter in this case. Look at playoff production between the two. One plays in front of the net, the other not. Can we please bury Jagr? He is cooked, done.

Not sure if this is legitimate or in zest, but ZAR isn't a tradable asset. We need to sign college free agents. If we start trading them before they play a season for us they will not sign with us again.

I 100% agree, same thoughts.

I like the idea of Shore but I think the Stars are short on centers. I guess it depends on whether they play Spezza at C or W.

For a lot of these teams on the cusp, I think it will take a roster player like Horny to get a deal done.

What team out there is long on centers but short on wingers? Hags and Sheary could be in the mix, too.

I still like the idea of pick(s) / prospect to Vegas for one of Lindberg or Karlsson. Neither are proven but I think both could handle 3C and have a lot of upside.

Nick Shore from the Kings would be my target, not Devin Shore, if you were referring to my proposal for a Shore.

I liked Covenant, but I also think I am not as harsh on movies as some people. I can usually appreciate films at least in SOME way. It wasn't really ambitious at all (like Prometheus), but it was entertaining. And it had Kenny Powers in it.
- j.boyd919

*mild spoilers but not really*

You liked Prometheus and Covenant?

I can understand liking one or the other but the two are at odds with each other. The latter shat all over Prom. and washed away any sort of interesting origin story to the aliens that Prometheus was leaning towards. I almost consider it as tragic and bad as the 3rd Alien on how it supports the other movies.

Whats funny is everyone who nitpicked Prometheus for the character's decision making got a movie in Covenant with far worse character choices and development. Was pretty disappointed Ridley Scott gave us that movie after he despised Alien 3 so much.

THE STANDARDIZED 0-10 RATING SYSTEM
In order to convert all metrics into a common currency, they are standardized and scaled on a 0-10 scale (mean = 5, standard deviation from mean = 2). A rating of 5 represents league average performance at a skater's position. Approximately 70% of skaters will fall between ratings of 3 and 7.

WHICH SEASONS ARE INCLUDED?

The charts encompass the last three NHL seasons (2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17). The seasons are weighted 44%-33%-22% based on temporal proximity. These weights were chosen based on findings in this piece on forecasting with Marcels.

per the Chart FAQs

- j.boyd919

When I clicked on the charts, it just took me to an image.

But I'll assume it's using the standard error of the mean due to the 1-10 standard.

I just liked the whole play on creationism.

God tells man, “I have created you, you have all the abilities I can give you, but creation is mine.” Man tells android, “I have created you, you have almost all the abilities I can give you, but creation is mine.” Then andriod tells BOTH of them to (frank) off, and starts creating because he was told not to, so of course that means he should.

I didn't think it was terrible, and I didn't think it was that far off from Prometheus. I've just come to accept that characters make stupid decisions in every movie no matter what.

Crazy alien thing sucking someones brains locked in a quarantined room? Lemme go in and save them.

Dark alley as a shortcut to the bar? Lemme take it.

etc.

I don't know how to save images, but it looks like Jiri Lehtera for Tom Kühnhackl would be an easy solution to your bottom-6 center issue.

All comedies. Looking for supernatural, paranormal stuff. But, Bubba Ho-Tep is to movies what James Tanner is to hack writers. The cream of the crop in a hilarious way.

It's one player. Plenty of the Pens players came from college and succeeded. Trading one isn't going to hurt anything.
- j.boyd919

Its entirely rude to trade a guy who chose to sign with us before the season starts. ZAR isn't a draft pick. Trading ZAR doesn't just cost us ZAR it costs us every other college UFA guy we would want to sign. Being that we trade a lot of draft picks its not something we can do. Trading ZAR costs us 10 ZAR's.

It sets a bad precedent when a "free agent" is sold on and picks Pittsburgh only to be traded a year later before ever playing a game for the franchise. Agents are vindictive and don't forget that stuff, especially when talking about college free agents who can only be offered ELC, therefore money would be a non factor as its the same across the board.

The Evil Dead was 100% not a comedy. Evil Dead II started off as a true horror movie but turned into a slapstick comedy once it got into his hand.

And yeah, My Name is Bruce is completely over-the-top and trolls itself the whole way through...and it is glorious.

Excuse me. Evil Dead was so bad it became an amazing comedy. One of the best films made dollar for dollar and based on how the creators decided to follow up on it.

Yes...just doesn't happen in sports. And agents will be vindictive. Can only even name one UFA (counting guys with pro experience like Hainsey who just signed a contract) who were traded before their season even started. I can't think of one in all of pro sports.

Because he really has high enough value to get the piece we need to add. ZAR is probably worth a late 1st/2nd. We are the premier destination for these guys now. Your essentially costing us a mix of 10 draft picks by trading one of them. You are better off dealing our actual future picks than ZAR. This isn't a difficult concept to understand.

And you are not even costing us just the equivalent of future draft picks. Any guy we would sign to a UFA deal next year would have his agent telling him not to sign with us. Hagelin is the closest to a guy getting traded that fast I can remember but he essentially didn't fit in with his new team after the season started.

Ah, ok. Funny thing, I just went to look up Nick Shore and this is what I saw: "Kings' Nick Shore: Pens one-year contract". At first glance, my brain interpreted that he just signed a one-year contract with the Pens!

Anyway, I think he could be a possibility. He and Dowd played identical minutes, so I don't know who plays or who they want to play 3C. I'm guessing Shore since he is the younger player with more potential and the higher rated prospect. I think the Kings will want a roster player and it will be difficult to pry away Shore, who is a pending RFA. But I could see them as a team which has a use for and who would want a player like Horny. Replace ZAR with Horny and I think there might be a deal there - Horny, Pouliot, and a 1st.

You know, I used to think so too. But seeing how many top college UFAs the Flyers have signed the past few years after trading/demoting so many unsigned UFAs, even given their recent struggles, I'd have to disagree.

College/unsigned UFA's care about money (capped with bonuses), availability of NHL roster spots, and recent team success. If you offer a salary/bonus structure that is on par with your competitors, give him a legit shot at the NHL, and have been a good team, you have an advantage over most teams, regardless of what players you've traded in the past.

Looking at it today, it's so campy that it is. But the only reason it ever saw the light of day was because Stephen King called it "The most ferociously original horror film of 1982." That's when the offer from New Line Cinema came in. In 1982, it passed for legit horror.
