Not sure about that... But I am certain that Toronto is the number 1 desired destination for players... As proven by all of the big UFAs they sign year in and year out. It's common knowledge that Tavares, Stamkos, Crosby, McDavid, etc are all dying to play for the Leafs, as is evident by the numerous articles we have shoved down our throats. Nobody wants to play with McDavid in Edmonton that's for sure... Go Leafs! - laughs2907

The ONLY thing the Leafs should be looking for is their Larsson-type dman. Other than that, they need to stand pat. This roster is going to be insane for many years to come.
Even after Bozak's likely departure, you know Nylander or Marner will be moved into that spot with Kapanen taking of their spot on the wing.
You don't need Tavares. |

You think Toronto really isn't in the same boat?
Leafs forward depth > Oilers forward depth
Leafs defence < Oilers defence
Leafs goaltending = Oilers goaltending
Oilers have McDavid who is the game breaker/difference maker
Leafs have Matthews who has potential to be a game breaker/difference maker
Leafs are a year behind Oilers, both have potential to win Cups in the next 2-5 years, 2 for Edmonton, 3 (hopefully) for the Leafs. - Kinger34

I think Oilers will be contenders this year. Leafs a bit longer, hopefully the year after next. I really hope in 4-5 years they are against each other in the finals. |

This is what, even a majority of Leafs fans, don't realise.
Wait for Lillybust and Dermott to join the big club and they are 1 more dman from being a respectable club |

I love all the people saying we cant afford him yet we were ready last summer to offer stamkos the same 10M amount At the end of the day, if there is an elite talent to add to the roster, you can bet the leafs will find a way to make him fit.
And yes, it is very much possible he can join the leafs. But the other factor to take in is that we may lose some players along the way, like a Kadri which can be the next summer when matthews marner sign. Tavares lets say gets 10M, Kadri has a 4.5M caphit. Big difference, big difference in players as well. The + side if we can expend kadri, is we get assets in return to further improve for the long run. JVR, Komarov, Bozak are almost but certain will be gone. Unless they take a home discount or sign a 1 year deal to a front loaded contract. Also depends what marner, nylander, matthews get. Marner 7-8, nylander 7, matthews 10-11.
You can realistically see this next season:
Hyman Matthews Nylander
Marleau Tavares Marner
Brown Kadri Leivo
Kaps Gauthier Martin
Rielly ____
Gards Zaitsev
Hainsey Borgman/Rosen/Carrick
Andersen
Mcelh

uhhh...a lot has changed in a year.
Nobody was thinking these guys would get anywhere near these prices a year ago: Marner 7-8, nylander 7, matthews 10-11.
just summer talk anyway. isles still hold the cards. |

still does not matter, we can fit them all. Even if we had stamkos by now with the main 3. We will still not trade any of them. The only difference is we probably wouldnt of signed marleau, that would be the only difference |

I Don't think Tavares signs with the leafs. But I also think he waits till the end of the season to sign. The NYI have to at least win a playoff round, making the playoffs will not be enough. If they get knocked out in the first round again, I can see Tavares playing somewhere else.
This is a totally different situation then Stamkos. The previous 2 years before his contract came up, the Lightning played in the finals, and the semis taking the eventual cups winners to 7 games. The later they did without Stamkos for all but one game. NYI have lost in the 2nd round and missed the playoffs. If the Lightning had done that the previous years before Stamkos become a UFA, I think Stamkos is playing on another team right now. |

Here's something to be ashamed of : RANGERS HAVE WON LESS CUPS THAN ANY ORIGINAL SIX TEAM. To add to that Islanders have as many cup wins as the Rangers and Pens and Oilers have more. And the cherry on top is that the future is not so bright for your boys either.
Stanley Cups Won;
Montreal Canadiens: 23
(The Canadiens also have one pre-NHL win, listed below)
1924, 1930, 1931, 1944, 1946, 1953, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1986, 1993
Toronto Maple Leafs: 13
(Includes wins under previous franchise names: Toronto Arenas and Toronto St. Pats)
1918, 1922, 1932, 1942, 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1967
Detroit Red Wings: 11
1936, 1937, 1943, 1950, 1952, 1954, 1955, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2008
Boston Bruins: 6
1929, 1939, 1941, 1970, 1972, 2011
Chicago Blackhawks: 6
1934, 1938, 1961, 2010, 2013, 2015
Edmonton Oilers: 5
1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990
Pittsburgh Penguins: 5
1991, 1992, 2009, 2016, 2017
New York Rangers: 4
1928, 1933, 1940, 1994
New York Islanders: 4
1980, 1981, 1982, 1983
Meh....thats nothing to be ashamed of, especially when you consider how pro teams used to own Junior rosters rights back in that era.
WHats really shameful is since 1967 every current NHL city has hosted a cup final with the exception of Winnipeg, Columbus, Arizona and TORONTO .
Not sure a Leafs fan wants to throw stones at another teams history.

Name 3 other defenseman in metro who play 25 minutes a night and get 40-50 points and play all situations? - 151509
Not Nick Leddy? 22:43 is not 25:00. And 46 is not 50 points. He's also a minus player on a plus team.
He's a very good defenseman. But he's not top 3 in the Metro. And the Metro is weak on defensemen, so that wouldn't even be saying that much.

Getting to the final is nice, its not winning the cup. Please don't mix the two. There is a great degree of luck in getting to the final. Remaining injury free and one bad call can cost you a series - Just ask Gilmore.
While we are on the subject of junior roster rights, it didn't hurt Oilers too much that Gretzky was exempt from being drafted did it? Now you can talk about throwing stones - Ballard was a lowlife and and a crook that put the Leafs in the dark ages. Pocklington was a lowlife crook that sold the best forward ever to play in the NHL for cash. Edmonton until winning the first overall for the fourth time (and being run by a couple of dimwits - Lowe and McTavish) were lost in space for ten years. On top of that - they still employ a convicted murderer - McTavish. |

He might, I think it will be $10 to $11. Leafs unlikely to wait till the last minute.

Unless he he a major sophomore slump, which he won't cause he's too good, he can almost name his price.
Won't be far away from 12 imo
