I know for a fact Tavares would love to play in Toronto but I don't see a fit unless he would be willing to sign a very club friendly deal. The Leafs already have a franchise centre. They have no room for another 10-12M centre.

Maybe he could go to the Habs. They don't have a #1 or a #2 centre

Islanders were a model expansion team when Torrey ran the team. I think Tavares might leave - but the Rangers are much more likely than the Leafs. Rangers were scraping the bottom of the dumpster when they signed Desharnais.

that is one team he better not go to. That will mean there will be a bounty on his head. Weird I have read tons of articles that Tampa Bay could be his destination

I can't see Tampa, JT will be looking for $10 mil plus, Capspace will be a huge influence. Will likely mean Montreal and Tampa are not in the picture. Price got the big contract, Tampa signed Stamkos, and Johnson. Rangers cleared the deck for a reason, and I don't think it was for Shattenkirk.

Hamonic was one of the worst statistical dmen in the league last 2 years very happy we got something for him. Leddy is top 3 defenseman in the Metro, Boychuk better than everyone on toronto as well as dehaan. Add in 100mph pp shot and 4 or 5 more nhl dmen to fill up last two spots. Gardiner stinks, Liljegren at least 2 years away. Zaitzev and Reilly form one of the worst first pairing combinations in the eastern confrence

All signs point towards the Leafs being a powerhouse in the East for the foreseeable future. I mean...Stamkos plays for them.

Here's something to be ashamed of : RANGERS HAVE WON LESS CUPS THAN ANY ORIGINAL SIX TEAM. To add to that Islanders have as many cup wins as the Rangers and Pens and Oilers have more. And the cherry on top is that the future is not so bright for your boys either.

Stanley Cups Won;

Montreal Canadiens: 23
(The Canadiens also have one pre-NHL win, listed below)
1924, 1930, 1931, 1944, 1946, 1953, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1986, 1993

Toronto Maple Leafs: 13
(Includes wins under previous franchise names: Toronto Arenas and Toronto St. Pats)

Rangers will have 23 goal scorer Rick Nash's $7.8 million off the books next year, should be able to make JT very rich.

You don't think the Isles will trade him if they know they can't re-sign him? And then trade him to the Rangers? Probably the last team they want him to play for...!

Not sure about that... But I am certain that Toronto is the number 1 desired destination for players... As proven by all of the big UFAs they sign year in and year out. It's common knowledge that Tavares, Stamkos, Crosby, McDavid, etc are all dying to play for the Leafs, as is evident by the numerous articles we have shoved down our throats. Nobody wants to play with McDavid in Edmonton that's for sure... Go Leafs!

Some players would probably want to play alongside McDavid, on a team likely to contend for the Cup in near future...

You think Toronto really isn't in the same boat?

Leafs forward depth > Oilers forward depth
Leafs defence < Oilers defence
Leafs goaltending = Oilers goaltending

Oilers have McDavid who is the game breaker/difference maker
Leafs have Matthews who has potential to be a game breaker/difference maker

Leafs are a year behind Oilers, both have potential to win Cups in the next 2-5 years, 2 for Edmonton, 3 (hopefully) for the Leafs.
