honestly, i don't see it as a good fit. i don't think the Leafs need Tavares really. Matthews-Kadri-Bozak is a great lineup at C. i think they're better off trying to find that impact player for the D.

Exactly. Leafs management has also said that Nylander projects as a centre long term. Sorry to rain on people's picnic (Santo), but not only is it not workable under a salary cap, positionally the asset allocation does not work for the team that is being assembled.

Here's one that will make your head spin: If you can make the comments, why can't I carve them up? Think on that for a while. I used to do that all the time - then I graduated Junior High. I had Kariya and Selanne on Sundin's wing AND the Leafs were able to hang on to Berezin without giving up Warriner. It was an AWESOME summer.

How much better is your defense really? You lost Hamonic. Boychuk isn't getting younger. Sure you have some nice prospects, but as a whole are Leddy, Pullock and whoever really that much better than Zaitzev, Reilly, Gardiner, Liljegren, etc?

The nice thing is that a rumor like this would have been on the level of desperation. It was looking for a long time that the only hope for the Leafs would be someone like Tavares leaving his team to come there to help them out. An understandably annoying thing for fans of those teams.

It's nice now that there isn't that kind of desperation from the Leaf fanbase. Obviously if you can add a guy like Tavares that's a huge opportunity. Though having 3 young stars (one of which is already a franchise center) the mood changes. Even last year there was more hype about potentially adding a Stamkos because it wasn't completely clear how good these guys were.

Now it is more of a "well if you can make it work" feeling. Honestly I think Tavares stays. Almost all star players stick with their teams and for good reason. You spend years upon years in one place, it's hard to go anywhere else. There's probably temptation for him to leave. But that's a difficult choice. I think he's just waiting to see how things play out and could lock himself up mid-season.
