Markov not coming back with the Habs, despite reports claiming he was willing to accept a one year deal, is a god damn travesty.
One of my favorite players ever leaving.... such a shame.
Habs are weaker today than they were last season - Scabeh
some reporter on a radio show said he turned down 1 yr $4 mill. I doubt it's true, but if it is true then that was fair offer. |

Just for fun, how much would you have given him for one year? |

Exactly the same salary he got last year.
Somehow, and obviously we'll never know for sure, I feel like he would have said yes.
This guy is the 2nd most productive defenseman in the most successful franchise in the NHL.
He'd rather go back to Russia than play for another team in the NHL.
And Bergevin couldn't get this done? Even when he was fine with a 1 year deal and the team still has around 8M in cap space?
Complete failure. |

Im not sure if they are any worse and its less likely they are better but Drouin, Alzner and a full season of JC are big unknowns.
I get the feeling we will end up sitting on most of that 8 million dollars this year, then get a very expensive mediocre rental player come trade deadline for a few months and lose Hudon, Carr, and any other decent prospect in turn. |

I agree, but I think by deadline they will be out of the playoff race |

Nah, we're probably just going to be a really mediocre playoff team again unless Galchenyuk or Drouin manage to become good first line centers and Montreal's defense isn't as poopty as it looks to me. Far too many question marks to bank on them all panning out. |

Carey will have to be on top of his game every single night having this squad in front of him. I predict he will be injured again at some point this season.
That. Or, he will look average with that roster Mark Bergevin has put together. And that 10m signing is going to look awful.
Habs fans must be pretty upset, which I have no sympathy after dealing with these Management issues for for way to long in Toronto! Nice to be on the opposite side of the stick for once :D - LeafGuy89
No doubt. That Marleau contract is simply awesome. |

He's shafted Markov and backed himself into a corner in the process. With Markov admitting he was willing to go one season, sitting on the 8M is not an option. Time to pay up and fix the forwards if he's going to destroy the blue line like that. |

Meh, at least that makes some sense in that having a gentleman's agreement means that other GMs won't go offer sheeting habs either. |

Well at least Drouin is a bigger gamer in the playoffs then all the pussies we have who disappear every year. |

If he does that he's won't be able to trade Galchenyuk for a 3rd round pick in two years. |

I loved the Drouin trade, but unless he or Galchenyuk step up and become dominant centers we have no realistic chance of going far in the playoffs. I believe at least one of them could, probably Galchenyuk, but even if he does I think we downgraded significantly on the backend. |

i don't see them going into the season with the current defence lineup. it doesn't really make sense. |
