Unfortunately north of 10 per will become norm soon. The speculation is Eichel will sign for more then 11 and Mathews will break McDavids number. That is all in the next 2years. Offering Tavares 10 will be the starting bid. Open market he will fetch over 12. I am all for getting Tavares but at 12-13 per is only 1 mill less then what we are paying Sedins for 94 points. Tavares will not score that many more points on a crappy team like ours and can play only 1 position.

I agree the only difference is the Sedins are done after this year, Tavares will have the next seven to drop off all the while being paid a stupid amount of money.

No team does...I still think Taveres is overrated
- CanuckDon

I don't think he's overrated. He usually finishes between 70-80 points, plays top minutes against top players, tons of experience, and is definitely#1C. Any player you can build your team around should be rated highly.

I think he should get the fawk outta Long Island, that Snow dude is f-ed in the head. He'd be one of the first franchise guys in modern day NHL to test the FA market, Id be interesting as hell. Cus even tho on paper only a select few teams could afford him, I bet the teams that couldn't would make bold moves to try and free up space for him.

I think hes overrated by some and underappreciated by others, a really good player regardless but what good would it do the Canucks to sign him? I know some think that we got 6 NHLers from this past draft but I am not confident and think he will drag the team further from good draft positions that are needed to build a strong team

It is the reason I am ok with bringing the Sedins next year for 1 year at 5mill each. Lets say they have a drop off in points and score combined 80 on 10 Mil. That is still better then Kopitar. BTW Kopitar scored 52 points last season on 10mil cap hit and is 7 years younger then Hank. The grass is not always greener on the other side.

I disagree, I think Tavares would have a much greater impact than the Sedins. In his prime right now, he could create inflated totals for a few mediocre players as he has already done many times on Long Island

If Benning brings the Sedisn back at 10 mil I hope he gets fired and roasted by the media as worst GM ever.

That is stupid. There are much better options than two old guys that don't know what the inside of their own blue line looks like.

Which is why he'll choose to go to a contending team, as he's tired of playing with poop players. I suspect Toronto, Calgary, San Jose, Carolina and the Blues will be in there. Montreal should be but MB has proven to be quite the unit and I don't think he has it in him.

Do you think Tavares wants to play behind Matthews?

It is to some here, Tavares is a great talent, only 26 but there are also concerns to be considered, last 3 years his point totals went down, 86 2014-15, 70 2015-16, 66 2016-17. But that could mean nothing at all as Brooks states Snow could have a contributing factor with this.

But are people ready to pay 12-13mil for one player to produce 70-80 points, I'd rather stay the course and finish bottom 2 and draft better players.

I think he wants to win. They would be the answer to the question " who else can go toe to toe with crosby/malkin McJesus/Leon up the middle

There are better options. That why I said take a run at Stastny. I am not advocating getting Sedins back. Our current crop leaves us no choice. either we overpay a prized UFA in a "win now" contract and handcuff future, or we ride the devil we know for another year and give the kinds another year to develop.
I am totally against spending more then 11 on any player...unless they are generational types. Tavares is good and is probably McDavid status on our team but not to be paid the same way.

Agreed, I dont think he cares about being a #1 or #2. When you look at how the successful teams have a #2C that would easily be many team's #1, he probably would be fine taking a secondary role if it meant winning (and he got paid well for it)

I do doubt he comes west though. I like your Carolina pick, he could still grow with that team

Aho is a very real player IMO very overlooked, they have some really talented wingers in general.
