Better defensive play should be the prime aspect that will/should differentiate Strome from Eberle. GA60 when Strome is on the Ice would/could be a great analytical stat to look at in comparison to Ebs as the season goes on (as long as similar variables are in play) when judging whether or not the trade was a good one from a defensive perspective. |

Totally
Who cares about results ?
I only care about the appearance of effort. Buddy can run around like his hair is on fire and accomplish nothing.
But it's just so frustrating when In my biased estimation a guy appears to not 'care' even if he puts up quality numbers year after year
Essentially the NHL is akin to atom hockey. Participation, having fun and trying your best Is all that matters - HB77
I'm not terribly sold on this trade either. Loved Eberle as an Oiler for the most part, he was one of the very few bright spots during the really dark years. That being said, it was awfully apparent that he half assed it when it came to physical play. It just wasn't his style.
Strome didn't impress me much last year until Weight took over. He was sloppy and confused under Capuano (and really which Islander wasn't?), but seemed to respond positively to the coaching change. I don't think this trade will ever end up being a win for the Oil, but depending on how Strome jives with team and most importantly McLellan, I think it could end up being fair value.
What really sticks in my craw in regards to this trade, is that Chia threw the resulting savings at Russell. I liked Russell as an Oiler last year, but not enough to give him that much term and coin. Hopefully some of Larsson's divine magnificence rubs off on him.
Oh and suck it Jero of course. |

It wouldn't be. He played on a team with worse defense, substantially weaker goaltending and played a fair deal of time away from top opposition. Too many variables as a raw stat so you'd be better off looking at GA/60 relative to his teammates alongside Fenwick Against/60 relative to his teammates combined with goal differentials after factoring his role (who he played with and against).
Either way, he spent more of his time as a winger than not so we should stop worrying about his defensive game. Most wingers simply aren't good at the finer points. We don't need Marian Hossa. |

Strome is poop in his own end, so "better" might be bare minimum. - AdamFrench
His first NHL season he was our best two way forward kid was pretty incredible. If he can get back to that game again Oiler fans will be very happy. |

It's been a running gag for years now.
Also he's not elite, but there's no harm in being just very good |

How is it a "gag" when you actually don't consider him elite? |

I love it when you talk dirty stats. I still don't understand a word of it, but by Larsson it makes my loins quiver. |

I dont need to write that Tavares isnt elite anymore than I have to write that the sky isnt green. It's just reality. But it's fun to say it because I like shaking your hornets nest. |

One of those players is LD...the other signed for UNDER 7 million. Why people think it's automatic LD is worth 7+ and upwards of 8, 9, 10 million is beyond me. |

Nice attempt at covering up your butthurt. Any word on JT's extension or is he gonna Bolt? Toronto? San Jose? Jersey? He would look sick with Hallsy. |
