He wasn't even in the conversation for first over all... and to think Washington traded him for Martin Erat. |

There is a very real possibility he won't amount to poop in this s league....but we're not supposed to say things like that here. - Larsson_fan
It's a possibility, but the sample size is too small and still has more evidence pointing towards a successful NHLer. He produced similar totals to Rantanen in their respective 18-year old AHL seasons, has a projectable frame and an attention to the defensive side of the game. At worst, I'm confident he can pull of a career as a 3rd liner that can jump up once in a while. Not unlike Pouliot. |

He was in MY conversation for 1st overall
Along with Grigorenko...
But I can't say too much. I was thoroughly stoked about getting Yakupov, too. |

Nail's rookie year was solid... then they hired Eakins and it went down hill from there. Having three coaches in four years didn't help either. - Reveen.
Solid, but nothing spectacular. He got hot at the end of the season with 6 goals in 3 or 4 games. The funny thing is that the "too many coaches" line is set to be as true elsewhere as it has been in Edmonton: Hitchcock, Yeo and now Bednar within a year's time |

I still wonder if Nail had concussion issues derail him. He had two in 5 months in his draft year...but then it doesn't explain why he was killing it in the KHL and solid rookie season for a 1st overall... |

He looked strongest in his rookie season.... Eakins buried him on the 4th line and refused to play him to his strengths, tried to turn him into a checking forward. |

You also had that strong feeling about Draisaitl I seem to recall him becoming Dustin Penner was all but a certainty in your mind. Not as bad as the guy who insisted he was nothing but Jason Bonsignore. |

I know the concussions were a concern at first, but it's not like his methods changed dramatically coming out of juniors. He was still the bull in a china shop being chased by bees. I think that the NHL was initially caught off guard by his style but, as is often the case, teams adjusted and began capitalizing on the many flaws in his game. |

As I mentioned to Frenchy, it's like just as much that teams started keying in on the many flaws in his game and exploited his presence in the line-up. Eakins certainly didn't help the situation, but Yak never adjusted and paid the price. |

It is fun that both Yak and Murray who were so touted ended up being poop or mediocre.
2012 was pretty blaze in general though.
I gotta say, I was super wrong about Filip Forsberg, his game evolved dramatically. |

So the entire NHL fuct up on the assessment of Yakupov? All the scouts etc? Kruger gets him for the half ish season he gets points and confidence... Next season Eakins comes in and the kid lays off and is complete garbage??? - saskoil21
This happens all the time. Almost every draft has a bust or two in the top 8. Scouts can have varying opinions but still be wrong by consensus.
And Edmonton's scouts wanted Murray. Katz wanted the entertaining pick. |
